Description Philip Meyer 2008-08-23 09:32:33 UTC
A scan for new/changed music sometimes doesn't seem to find artwork for new albums.

In my case, I have a flac album with folder.jpg, but there is no thumbnail in the Browse New music display after the scan. The artwork is showing when I browse to the album, but still doesn't display in Browse New Music.

WinXP, SVN 22859.

It's always been that way. I don't recall the server ever being 100%
when doing a new/changed scan. Doing a clear/rescan, on the other
hand, is pretty much always 100%.

I noticed something a while ago when I was running multiple servers.
Say I did a new/changed scan on five new albums, and after the scan,
one of the albums was missing the artwork. If I then ran a new/changed
scan on another server (usually a different version of SC), the same
album would be missing the artwork on that server.

Philip:

Can you get a debug log for us? enable the following, then attach a clean scanner & server log after doing a scan.

artwork
database.mysql
database.sql
formats.*
scan.*
All Other Logs set = Error

Philip: Can you try today's 7.2.1 (23213) build to see if this issue is still present?

I haven't experienced this issue since moving to SC7.3.

Have any changed specifically gone in to fix this bug, or were you just asking me to check that it still occurs because the bug was raised a while back?

Closing the bug now, as there were DB changes put into place for 7.2.1 that would have fixed this.

Andy wants this bug reopened, as he feels there is no fix for this in place
yet. Steven is going to sort through all the "artwork scan" bugs and mark as
related to this one.

I've just seen it happen again.

I had an album of mp3 tracks with existing artwork for the album, and this was displayed okay within the WebUI.

I re-ripped the album into flac format - replacing the mp3 files with flac files in the same source folder location. The tag content was the same.

I did a scan for new/changed files.
The pre-existing albums that now have new music files don't show artwork thumbnails in "Browse New Music". When I click on such an album and also on a track on the album, the artwork is shown correctly, but it still isn't displayed when I go to "Browse New Music" (or album list context).

Completely new albums do display the artwork correctly.

seems that scanning for new and changed is broken, b/c it also misses changes to comp tags, bug 9938

one wonders what that scan is useful for? (i never use it)

I keep seeing with with 7.3.2 as well. In new music that I add some of the albums will miss the the thumbnail graphics after New/Changed scan, but will have all the other artwork properly.

All my art is provided by WMP as folder.jpg and the music concerned in the MP3 format.

The artwork will then sometimes reappear randomly after subsequent scans. Embedded artwork in the files in addition to the folder.jpg may contribute, but I can find anything systematic.

I've posted some screenshots on the slimserver forums:
