Description Matt Wise 2008-08-14 14:18:56 UTC
There is currently no 'Add to My Radio Stations' link when you drill into a particular radio station that we already have linked (under Radio Time, Radio IO, etc...).

We need the functionality on Jive as well... but SC is the first place it should work.

I think this request is a dupe of the one which basically says "there are too many confusing ways to organize your music" (favorites, my radio stations, podcasts, playlists - all are same, same, but different). We don't need to add one more way to organize favorites, but we need to consolidate the ones we have.

I'll try to find that other bug.

Well I agree that there are too many ways to do it ... but if we have the option to have the "My Radio Stations" folder, then we really need to give the user the ability to add things to it (other than manually entering the URL).

Perhaps with relation to that other bug there should just be an ability to create your own folders where-ever you'd like... so that users can organize on their own?

Need to a "Add to My Radio Stations" via Media Info Screen just like a "favorite"

Exactly! I've been thinking about this a little more. We have several requests regarding favorites, my radio stations etc.:

- easier way to organize "My Radio"
- make favorites/presets configurable per player
- unify the way favs/radios/podcasts are organized
- sync Favorites between SC/SN
- sync My Radio between SC/SN
- (more)

I think we should rip out podcasts and My Radio in favour of an extended Favorites plugin:

- favorites can be assgined hotkeys per player (presets - what they used to be)
- favorite sub folders can be assigned a menu where they should show up -> My Radio becomes a sub folder of Favorites and a sub menu of Internet Radio, dito for Podcasts
- favorites top level items are shown in the Favorites home menu
- make the favourites plugin the one place to manage these resources (get rid of the Podcast plugin in Settings)
- no need for additional Add to XY buttons, but add radio stations to Fav/Radio instead
- cream on top: add a context menu to the "Add to Favs" button, allowing to add an item anywhere within your fav organization

No, no and no. No additional button.

Dean - we should have somebody come up with a plan for this. We've gone back and forth adding stuff to Favorites, removing others etc. Should marketing do a design of what these features should do? Or Brian?

How about making the My Radio selection a permanent (cannot be deleted) folder within Favorites and then making this folder a fixed selection under Internet Radio? Same thing, accessible in two places.

Your choices when marking a 'radio station' as a favorite would seem to be:

1. Recognize remote URls that could be radio stations and drop them into the My Radio folder.

2. Drop them into the Favorites root folder, as currently done. If My Radio is a folder within Favorites, then the user can move the link there at a later time using the web interface.

3. Implement an extended dialog within the web and controller interfaces that allows a user to select a folder by drilling down into Favorites. This would also rely on My Radio being a subfolder of Favorites.

And... Is there a compelling reason to keep screwing around with OPML files instead of simply placing Favorites in a table within the database?

I was thinking about something similar: let's have "online resources" (Podcasts, radio) and favorites freely organized, as we do today with Favorites. Then have a way to configure:

a. hotkeys for any entry
b. folders to be displayed in whatever place (My Radio would be one obvious example, Podcasts, top level might be another one for the favorite favorites)

Please also see bug 9671: Enable browsing from favorites.

Favorites, no matter how well organized into folders and subfolders, currently have limited practical use - they're good for radio stations and playlists and not much else. Marking a genre, year, or artist in the music library as a favorite only permits you to load up every last track from the entire genre, year, or artist in one lump operation. This is of very limited use, and probably no value to most users.

It would be very powerful if you could browse from a favorite. Mark an artist as a favorite and be taken instantly to the artist within the 'browse artists' hierarchy, from which you can play an album or browse further and queue up individual tracks. This would be particularly nice on the Boom, where scrolling long lists is difficult without an alphanumeric keypad.

Not going to happen for 7.3
Comment 11 Michael Herger 2008-12-15 11:03:36 UTC
this should be reviewed for the great overhaul

This is/has been resolved (but not yet implemented of course) as part of the Liberace design changes...

By the way, this is a feature enhancement, not a bug. It would be useful if we try to categorize things this way...

I do appreciate all of the thinking you gus have put into this.
Comment 15 Weldon Matt 2009-07-29 16:09:48 UTC
this is basically done (it's better, at least, with new app gallery, context menus and mysb.com favorites), waiting to resolve when 7.4 is implemented more fully
Comment 16 Michael Herger 2009-07-30 00:30:26 UTC
Matt - this imho isn't about customizing the home menu, but about how you manage your own internet radio stations, podcasts etc. This goes along with Caleb's recent discussion in mail.

Right. The "Podcast Player" and "News Ticker" apps are being spun off/expanded to handle what were formerly podcast and rss feed favorites.

I like some of the radio suggestion here too, but for 7.4 these are remaining part of favorites.

I don't think any more changes beyond those are making it into 7.4, but I DO hope this is half the battle toward resolving this issue.

Retargeting...

This bug could literally exist forever. Resolving as wontfix because god only knows what the actual bug is at this point. Please open new bugs for specific issues.
