I've wanted this myself.  I propose that this get put into settings.

I actually think this is a bad idea, the jive settings ui is already getting to cluttered. Surely you'll be in front of your PC when adding music and needing to rescan.

Since the Jive, I actually touch the web interface very little.  I just added a load of tracks and cover artwork whilst sitting at my laptop, but then naturally reached for the Jive to trigger a rescan.  If others are like me, it's a significant bit of functionality to be missing.  Then again, does the server do automatic rescans by default?  I forget.

Now that we have post-7.0 milestones, we may want to re-evaluate when to add this? (7.01? 7.1?)  I think it's an important UI piece that's missing.

From a purely selfish perspective: given that my SC7 machine is very low powered, a full rescan isn't the kind of operation I'd like any house-guests to stumble on (and activate) when using the SBC. ;-)

I'd rather the server did its nightly automatic rescans while everyone's asleep...

If this appears on the controller, it might make sense to put it at the bottom of the Music Library menu.  It's probably also worth considering where this appears on the Squeezebox - the current home under Extras relies on far too much knowledge of the internals.

per discussion today, bug fixes are targetted for 7.0.1, new features for 7.1. This is the latter.
