Squeezebox Boom fw 50
Mysqueezebox.com

Boom switched from German to English on it's own

Steps to recreate are as follows:

Set up Boom in English, and connect to mysqueezebox.com
After it is connected, set language to German
After 12-24 hours, Boom switches back to English

Was able to recreate this issue on 3 different SB Booms, and 3 different mysqueezebox.com accounts.

Thanks,

LaRon

LaRon: do you have SC > mysqueezebox.com Integration enabled?

Is your SBS instance set for English or German
Is your MySB instance set for English or German
Comment 2 Walker LaRon 2009-11-12 12:30:48 UTC
Hello James,

Yes, mysb.com integration is turned on in my SB Server, however the customer only uses mysb.com.

The customer's mysqueezebox.com account was in German, and this issue still occurred.

My account(s) are both in English, and the issue occurred.

This is happening when the Boom's are connected to mysqueezebox.com, as this is how the customer uses his Boom.

Thanks,

LaRon

The bug meeting consensus is that this happens when the firmware setup language is different from the selected language.

Andy notes the way to fix it is allow the firmware setup language to be changed by the server. But this is risky and a lot of work.

Can the user go to the firmware setup and select German, and then return to the server, LaRon? That should fix it.

The full, right fix will probably need to wait for more users to have problems before we can spend the time to fix it.
Comment 4 Walker LaRon 2009-11-17 13:50:50 UTC
Spoke with Customer:

Customer only uses Mysb.com

States the issue occurs when setting Boom up in German, or switching to German after it is set up.

He also states that now states the name of his boom resets to "Squeezebox", and has changed the name several times, and the sleep function reset itself to 1 minute.

Please note that we have already RMA'd the customer's original SB Boom.

Thanks,

LaRon

As of Saturday (21.11.2009), the alarm function on the Boom appeared to have stopped working. Upon careful examination, I found (in the browser interface) that no days of the week had been checked off.

Since this was perfectly fine prior to Saturday, that means that something changed yet another setting here.

In addition, the time and language have continued to change, perhaps once every 24 hours, in tandem. The most recent change (to 12 hour time and English language) was about 3 hours ago (from this post).

Jonathan:

Please try the following;

Factory Reset your player, when you get to the language prompt, Power off your player
Log onto MySB account, Go to player tab, Delete the player
Power up your player, walk through the setup. You will be prompted to re-register the player to your existing MySB account. Just follow the on device prompts.

Let me know in this bug report, if that helps or changes the behavior at all.
Comment 8 Michael Herger 2009-11-27 03:56:11 UTC
Andy - setting language from the player is conceptually broken: we have languages on mysb.com which we don't support in the firmware. And there's no obvious way to change the firmware language.

Why don't we stick with whatever the user selects on mysb.com, and forget about all the magic of automatic language selection? It causes too much confusion.
Comment 9 Jonathan Spira 2009-11-27 06:58:27 UTC
The time format changed by itself overnight from 24 hour to a.m./p.m.

In addition, the order of the menu items on the device changed as did several preset buttons.
Comment 10 Michael Herger 2009-11-27 08:34:22 UTC
Having played with this setting a bit it seems the timeformat indeed doesn't stick. It always reverts back to 12h. I'll investigate.
Comment 11 Jonathan Spira 2009-11-27 08:41:50 UTC
To Michael in particular, please note that this problem did not occur (nor did any other problems listed here such as language changes) before new software was pushed out to the Boom a few weeks back.
Comment 12 James Richardson 2009-11-27 12:24:59 UTC
(In reply to comment #10)
Bug 15198 covers the Time setting issue.
Comment 13 Michael Herger 2009-11-27 12:55:48 UTC
yup, wrong bug
Comment 14 Jonathan Spira 2009-11-27 15:27:03 UTC
LaRon in tech support had told me to post all of my issues here - hence the time change bug. Sorry if it was the wrong place but the problems with the Boom have actually consumed a huge amount of time in terms of my testing (hours on the phone with tech support at the beginning, for example) and I'm just an end user trying to keep a clock radio running properly :)
Comment 15 Jonathan Spira 2009-11-29 07:10:01 UTC
Both the language and the clock display changed at some point overnight from Saturday the 28th to Sunday the 29th.

The language went from German to English and the display went from 24 hour (hh:mm) to a.m./p.m.
Comment 16 Michael Herger 2009-11-29 23:35:06 UTC
Jonathan - where are you located?
Comment 17 Jonathan Spira 2009-11-30 05:37:30 UTC
I am in New York City.
Comment 18 Chris Owens 2009-11-30 09:25:37 UTC
Please file new bugs for issues other than the language reverting back. Thanks.
Comment 19 Walker LaRon 2009-12-03 15:00:05 UTC
Hello All,

I have tried all the workarounds, and the language on my Boom still changes on its own.

Thanks,

LaRon
Comment 20 Michael Herger 2009-12-06 23:58:58 UTC
Jonathan/LaRon - could you please check your player's MAC address to make sure it matches the address printed on the boom's sticker?
Comment 21 Walker LaRon 2009-12-07 11:31:12 UTC
Hello Michael,

I have verified this on the Booms I have tested. I am able to reproduce this with my own Boom.

This happens to me every day with my boom now.

Thanks,

LaRon

Customer in incident 091223-002110 is experiencing a similar issue. Player language is set to english, and account on MySB.com is set for english, but after an indeterminate amount of time the players switch to random languages, not one specifically.

Movie of bug from Squeezebox Boom in UK (file type .mov)

Seen with new Boom. Firmware: 50, Squeezebox Server r29813

Caught on video, but unable to duplicate. In UK.
Comment 24 Mickey Gee 2010-02-09 12:02:01 UTC
Attached movie shows switch from English to German. Didn't think I should open new bug for this, but can do so if needed.
Comment 25 Michael Herger 2010-02-09 21:47:16 UTC
Andy - is the user's language part of RadioTime's API? How do they determine it? I don't see any code on our side.
Comment 26 Andy Grundman 2010-02-10 04:54:55 UTC
We pass them an Accept-Language header.
Comment 27 Michael Herger 2010-02-10 05:17:59 UTC
Besides the content being cached for a few minutes (thus in wrong language right after the language switch) I can't reproduce this issue.
Comment 28 Jonathan Spira 2010-02-10 05:52:07 UTC
The switch from German to English continues to happen on my unit on a regular basis. It is not instantaneous - it can happen 1, 5, or 12 or more hours after I reset it to German.
Comment 29 Paul Chandler 2010-03-25 11:33:36 UTC
I set the language to german but ut only displays in german if I am pointed to mysqueezebox.com. If I point to my local server/library it reverts back to English. SQ Boom, fw: 50

I am not shure it's the same bug( 15899) as in may case only some items swtich to
english not all the GUI.
I have nevez encoured it on my boom only on may Radio.
But I have not all the informations as you, so if you think it...

Thank you.
Comment 32 ssnickerss 2010-03-28 07:58:22 UTC
... my account in mysqueezbox as my SQRadio are in french.
Comment 33 Chris Owens 2010-03-29 13:39:10 UTC
Michael, do you need anything more from QA to work on fixing this?
Comment 34 Michael Herger 2010-03-29 22:24:53 UTC
Chris - what I'd need is a way to reproduce this issue. Haven't been able to do so. It's just working fine for me (and yes, all my boxes are configured to use German). I don't know what to do with this bug.

Could everybody please check the language setting in the firmware, when the player is _not_ connected to any server at all?

Comment 36 ssnickerss 2010-04-08 15:12:36 UTC
Hello,

With 7.5 I have it again (english instead of french).

In the main menu Favorites (should be Favoris)
From Paramètres (Parameters) I have some items in french and so other in english :
Clock alarm (réveil), shuffle (mélanger)...
On my Boom it's always OK.

I think you know things better than me, but do you think it can come from mysqueezebox.com ? I mean is the Radio receives menus (or some items in the menus) form mysqueezebox.com. Then sometimes, some iterms are sent in english (default ?). In this case, that's why you can't reproduce because it wuld be not a bug from but from mysqueezebox.com

What is strange is that only some items are in english never all items...Always the same come back to english.

I hope I am clear enough and I apologize for my english.

André.
Comment 37 ssnickerss 2010-04-12 11:21:28 UTC
My SBRadio is connected to mySB.com and is configured in French. “Sometimes”, the following items of the menus are in English (not mentioned items stay in French). I have take time to note the itmes in english to help you :

Main menu :
•	My apps
•	App gallery
•	Favorites
•	Search
•	Note that from Live365, RadioTime, madiafly sub-menus are in English

From “Paramètres” (Parameters) :
•	Shuffle
•	Repeat
•	Alarm clock
•	Sleep
•	SB name
•	Synchronize

Sometimes all is in French!

I hope that it will help to find and solve the problem.
Comment 38 Michael Herger 2011-01-13 02:26:44 UTC
Do you still see this issue? Andy recently fixed a bug which could have been causing this.
Comment 39 ssnickerss 2011-01-28 15:53:30 UTC
It seemd to be fixed as menu items stay in french for days.
Comment 40 Jonathan Spira 2011-01-28 16:03:04 UTC
I set my SB to German a few days ago. The next morning, it was in English.
