Bugzilla – Bug 10642
Copy and verify firmware automatically
Last modified: 2012-03-05 09:11:21 UTC
When new firmware is available for Fab4 or SBC, I'd like to see it be copied and verified automatically, in the background, without a spinnny. Then when the user is prompted about an upgrade and he clicks yes, all that happens is a reboot to activate the new firmware.
I'm a little worried about the memory and cpu usage for this. what we don't want to do is interrupt the other features for this kind of background operation. What do you think, richard?
IMO, it would be better to allow an obvious way to postpone the update, or just go ahead and install if there is no user activity (and SBC is cradled?). My suggestion is here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=383519&postcount=22 But, whatever can be done to minimize the interruption would be good.
Richard, is this worth pursuing?
I do like this idea, but have concerns over performance downloading and verifying the firmware while the player is being used. Marking as future for review later.
Richard is no longer available to us.
