Bugzilla – Bug 13518
Provide a postpone option for firmware upgrade
Last modified: 2012-03-05 21:31:12 UTC
Can we please have a way to postpone a firmware update? It takes several minutes and sometimes it's just not a good time.
press-and-hold the back button.
If we provided an option on the FW update screen that says 'Skip this update for now' would that be a fix? Some developers propose that the update should be forced at some time later. One hour? One day?
to clarify, what was said is that if you dismiss an update with "skip this update" it should push on the update available window after X time. Skip this update would still be an option in the menu on each reminder. My opinion is that it should never be truly "forced", but pushing a reminder every X hours (that is always skippable) is probably the correct solution. This is e.g. the way OS X reminds users about software updates.
Yes, sometimes it is not the best time. Next time that this occurs, I will try press-and-hold the back button. Of course, this option is not immediately obvious, and a "not now" or "postpone" button would be welcome. I have no particular opinion as to how long to postpone, but I do agree that the user should never be forced. Thank you
We are going to be changing the ways FW upgrade/downgrades are handled. However the scope of this bug will not be addressed by this change.
