Bugzilla – Bug 8711
Group compilation albums is broken
Last modified: 2009-07-31 10:24:40 UTC
Hi all, I guess I found some unexepected behaviour... And it consist of two findings. I'm using 7.1 build 21662. SETTINGS (in order for you to recreate) Database is collected from MusicIP database (no scan of music folder by squeezecenter). - Music Library: Group compilation albums together - Music Library: List albums by all artists for that album - Music Library: Treat TPE2 MP3 tag as Band - Music Library: Treat multiple disc-sets as MULTIPLE ALBUMS RESULTS (OK!): - All albums with more than one artist are filed under 'various artists' - If a compilation albums contains a song of an artist who has already an entry in the database (with a solo album and thus appears in the list of artists) then the compilation album is also shown under the artist entry - If, on the other hand, a compilation albums contains a song of an artist who has NO entry in the database (does not appear in the artist list), this artist is NOT created in the artist list (which is good, as it prevents from having 100's of artists in the artist list with just one song!) Since build 21605 (NOT OK!) - For each artist on the compilation albums an entry is created in the list of artists (so I've now 200+ artists in the atirst list with one song on a particular compilation album). SETTINGS When the setting Music Library: Treat multiple disc-sets as MULTIPLE ALBUMS is set to Treat multiple disc-sets as SINGLE ALBUM (other are left the same), another bug appears: - Under various artists appear some albums (so not all solo albums, but just 'some') which contain only ONE artist - Compilation albums do not appear anymore under various artists (and yes, albums with more than one disc are grouped together, but that's expected behaviour). I hope my description is detailed enough for you to recreate these situations. Kind regards, Johan Sombekke
I see this too - it's now ignoring the 'Group compilation albums together' flag completely SqueezeCenter Version: 7.2 - 21633 @ Fri Jul 11 01:03:49 PDT 2008 - Debian - EN - utf8 Server IP address: 192.168.1.99 Perl Version: 5.8.8 x86_64-linux-gnu-thread-multi MySQL Version: 5.0.51a-3ubuntu5.1 Platform Architecture: x86_64-linux
See bug 8708 and bug 8426.
It's a duplicate of bug 8708 but it's quite different to bug 8426 (although it's caused by the 'fix') - which is why it's not picked up on a bug search!
*** Bug 8713 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Severity for this bug leans towards major IMHO. To me, it is a show stopper! My beta testing stops dead with build 21576 (7/8/08) where this feature still works correctly. I will not upgrade until this bug has been fixed. (Other users in my household will not accept the horrid clutter in the artist list caused by this bug).
Thanks for all comments. I do agree with Peter and changed severity to 'major'. Please notice that in fact I filed two bugs (sorry, should have made two entries in Bugzilla). 1. For each artist on compilation albums an entry is created in the list of artists 2. Treat multiple disc-sets as SINGLE ALBUM stops compilation albums being filed under 'various artists'(!); it might invoke other unexcepted beahviour but I didn't check for it (I checked one multiple disc set and it was shown as one disc, but you cannot draw any conclusions on a single result). Anyone having experience with this?
Johan, I'm using the "Treat multiple disc-sets as SINGLE ALBUM" option, and this has no effect on the problem. HOWEVER, I must point out that this option DOES work correctly, and it does merge two discs that have the DISCNUMBER tag set. Everything is good with this option AFAIK. It seems like the only problem is that the "Group compilation albums together" setting is ignored. Peter
Almost certainly a duplicate of bug 8711
Johan or whoever else is having this issue: can you retest with SqueezeCenter >= 21709? I reverted a change that I think should fix this issue, and I have not been able to reproduce the problem since that revision. Contrary to my findings, Dom retested (see bug 8717) and says his (closely related) problem is still there. That's the only line that's changed in the VA code since the break, so I'm of the opinion it should be back to normal...
SqueezeCenter Version: 7.2 - 21712 @ Mon Jul 14 01:05:13 PDT 2008 - Debian - EN - utf8 looks much better - thanks!
Works correctly! Thanks a bunch for the quick fix. Excellent!!!
I backed out another piece of code in 21745, which probably doesn't affect this bug, but keep an eye out after updating to that version or greater. marking this as resolved
@Peter, Thanks for pointing out the DISCNUMBER tag! @Ben Thanks for resolving this bug so fast. Tested OK with 21716.
Johan: Beware of one oddity - if two folders that belong to one album (DISCNUMBER=1 & DISCNUMBER=2) have artwork (e.g. cover.jpg) in BOTH folders, the merging does NOT work right. (As far as I recall). Only one of the folders must have the artwork, otherwise the albums are not merged. It would be very nice if the scanner was smart enough to realize that if the arwork is bytewise the same, it should be ignored in the second folder. This is not the case, so be sure that the second folder does not have artwork if you want the albums merged.
