Squeezbox remarks
First of all I am very pleased with the Squeezebox duet. This product is a major breakthrough in music listening. Having your entire music collection in your hand without having to switch on a television set. It’s superb.

System used:
Remote control firmware: 7.0 r2097
Squeezecenter: 7.0
Squeezebox version 22.

Now having used this product for a couple of days, I have some suggestions to improve the usability even more:
1.	Provide a setting that when:
a) the remote controller is on and
b) in the craddle and
c) the cradle provides power and
d) music is being played

that the display doesn’t dim and shows the track being played.

2.	The squeezebox identifies itself correctly to a dhcp server. For example my squeezebox is called Kitchen and on my Windows Server 2008 DHCP server, the name “kitchen” is properly displayed under Address Leases of the dhcp server. However, the remote control’s name is blank.

With more than one Squeezeboxes and remote controls it is handy to be able to identify the remote controls as well. Therefore, please add a feature to define the name of the remote control (i.e. Squeeze Box RC1) and use this name when requesting a IP number from a dhcp server so that it listed in the Address Leases field of the dhcp server.

3.	In the main menu of the Remote Control, please add an entry for a “Recently Played” list. So that you can easily go back to the CD or track that you played a couple of days ago.

4.	Under “Settings/Advanced/About” of the remote control please display the ip number of the remote control also.

5.	I have a four people family. The music taste of my wife, kids and myself differ a lot. The system will be used by all of us. Add a feature so that multiple music libraries can be made with SqueezeCenter and can be selected from the remote control.
For example under “Music Library” of the remote control add an entry to set the music library by providing a list of all music libraries to choose from.

This will also need a change at the SqueezeCenter side. Probably the integration of the “Basic settings” Screen and the “Music Library” screen. With each “Music Library” attributes like name of the Music Folders (plural!), Playlist Folders, etc should be set.

6.	Within “Squeezecenter Settings/Basic Setings/Music Folder” add the possibility to add more than one directory to be scanned, for example a semi column separated list, e.g.:
C:\My music\; d:\Shared Music

The information balloon is not clear on this if this is possible.

See also point 5. If you want to add different music libraries, you need to be able to provide different directories.

7.	Alarm functionality. I have the Squeezebox connected to a separate amplifier. For the alarm to function, the amplifier must be on. As the remote control has a small speaker as well, an alarm could also be given through that small speaker so that you don’t have to switch on an amplifier.

This could be accomplished in the Squeezecenter Settings entry “Players/Alarm/Alarm Playlist” to add an entry “Remote Control Beep”. If you want to make it fancy, you could provide for different alarm signals.

Bugs

1.	I have selected Dutch as the language for my remote control. When I change the language back to English, some of the menu items remain in the dutch language. (“Music/Library/Willekeurige Mix”, “Extra’s/Geluiden en Effecten” and "Speelt nu" en "Instellingen").

2.	The software update of my Remote control behaves strange. Under “Settings/Advanced/Software Update” a message is displayed that a new version is available. After going through the installation process, the exact same version is installed.

Also please provide information in the display under “Settings/Advanced/Software Update” which version is currently installed an what is the veriosn of the new version.

3.	Also on the remote control. Under “Settings/Advanced/Set Up Receiver” no receiver is listed. Everything else works fine.

4.	Sometimes the Squeezebox doesn’t react on the remote control. It is hard to reproduce this, but then the volume control doesn’t work and I cannot forward to the next track.

5. Bugzilla doesn't provide for selection windows Server 2008 as the platofrm

Please file these as separate bugs/enhancements. coders have far too many todo lists to track multiple distinct issues as one report.

thanks.

usability:
1) see bug 7934, bug 6620 and bug 6794

3) covered by one or more of Erlands Plugins http://code.google.com/p/erlandplugins/

4) ip is under wireless network, but could be added to about

5) See Erlands Multi-Library Plugin

6) see bug 607, current functionality does allow multiple shortcuts from the main
music folder. This then allows you to scan through to multiple locations. If you have network mapped drives, SC must be installed as application or set up the service to run under user permissions. system user has to access to mapped drives.

7) 7.2 is planned to have sound on Jive, should be filed separately as per my previous comment. See IRBlaster plugin
gwendesign|dot|com/slimserver/dev_hard_and_software.htm#irblaster

bugs:
1) I believe this is fixed in 7.0.1 builds. (bug 6616)

2) see http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=293701&postcount=25

3) receiver must be in setup mode to be shown. Once set up is done, use
Settings

4) ir remote? check batteries (you'd be surprised at how often is really is the problem).

5) cc'ing mwise to take care of this.
