Bugzilla – Bug 6369
Need an event log for reporting misc errors to web/Jive
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:29:49 UTC
If I click into "Pandora" under "Music Services". Then click "Your Stations" and mouse over a station, the 3 icons appear: <heart> <play> <add>. But clicking play does nothing. Or I should say rather: it does not play music. If I have some music playing and click a <play> icon on a Pandora station, it clears the playlist and plays nothing. Clicking <add> works. Did not try <heart>.
Works for me, tested in Safari, Camino, and Firefox. In Camino, I do notice the mouse cursor flickers between a hand icon and arrow icon over these icons for reason. Safari and Firefox are fine.
I successfully tested with IE6 and Opera on Windows. Can you give detailed instructions how you can reproduce this issue? Incl. browser & OS versions? Do you see JS errors in your browser?

Trying here at work on Vista with Firefox 2.x it works fine. This was happening at home, on XP with Firefox 2.x. I'll update tonight and see if I can recreate. I do note though that there is no UI feedback that I've clicked on the PLAY icon.
That's normal, the only UI feedback you get is on the player.
Hmm. But this was on a Ray. No display. :( I think I figured this one out though... my Pandora subscription is expired. So no error messages to tell me this. Anywhere. :(
Renaming bug.
This could also be used for reporting scan errors, after a scan you can see which files failed to scan and why. I have in mind for the web UI, something like a little red icon at the bottom (where those little info texts display) with text like "5 recent errors, click to view". It would only display if there has been an error in the last X minutes, although you could go back and view older errors if you wanted, with errors being purged after some time has passed.
The status tab in settings would be a good place for this. Just need to fill it in. In the case of errors, I think that putting a red x icon in place of the info icon there would be great, clicking on it would take you to the status tab in settings. Let's look at this post-7.0

first, great idea. i love the thought of having SC7 telling me what audio files it could not successfully add to the library at scan, if any. second, its also great to consider logging SB2 errors back at the server. this would cover two circumstances i have come across. the first is when the SB2 has trouble playing my local music. this is very rare, but does happen, (usually post FW upgrade). a log showing what the obvious cause of the failure was could help point to the root underlying cause. secondly, when in proxy mode, or not, or on SN, i still have an intermittent problem when the SB2, stutters, halts, freaks out, and even totally stops on its own playing shoutcast streams, even low bitrates. (usually my station). winamp on a wireless laptop almost never has an issue at the highest bitrate. some kind of log would go a long way towards not only proving the issue, but diagnosing it, once again by showing the local cause of the failure, and hopefully pointing to the underlying root issue. i would even go so far as to say that i bet most users would be willing to send such error logs automatically to SD, like windows error reporting does to microsoft. hopefully you guys could aggregate the data and see what issues are common. kudos to this bug report! (the bug, not my post ;)

I think we need to distinguish between messages in response to specific user actions or related to what they are playing now, and messages related to background tasks such as scanning (what else?). With 7.3 you should generally get these action/playing-related messages in a much more consistent manner, although there may be specific examples of messages which do not get displayed. If you find such specific example, then please open each such example as a specific bug.
