Description Justin Fletcher 2007-10-20 03:23:59 UTC
Select the Random Mix menu.
Observe the 4 Random ... Mix options, and Choose Genres.
Observe all the Random ... Mix options have a > marker on the right hand side, which implies that they will show a menu.
Click the Go button on Random Song Mix.
Observe that nothing happens for ~4 seconds (maybe this is a delay due to my 500MHz server? But it's not important the thing is that it does nothing) and then a random song begins to play from the squeezebox.
Observe that you /didn't/ hear a blip to tell you that it was doing anything either after the press or before the track started.
Observe that the > didn't rotate to indicate that it was thinking (as in the other menus)
Observe that you didn't actually get a sub-menu.
Observe no pop up telling you that Random Mix play has started, or the track that's now playing.

Maybe this should be 4 separate bugs:

  1) No blip when you press the Go button (which is important, particularly when there is a long delay before starting, and it's made worse by the track starting quietly) which means that the user is unsure whether the press was registered.

  2) The > is confusing. There is no submenu. It's a direct option. Suggest using a 'note' icon to indicate that selecting it will play the random mix.

  3) Suggest changing the wording to say 'Play random songs' - ie the wording indicates that an action will be taken.

  4) Add a notification to tell you that it's now in Random Play mode ?

All these are user feedback issues in this menu, so I've grouped them together.

I think it was suggested in this morning's meeting that this is a dupe of bug 5814, but not that I'm looking at it I'm not so sure.

This should be looked at for 7.0. Priority P3

fixed in change 16205 and associated jive changes earlier today

GO/PLAY have same effect in Random Mix items, and you will be pushed to the NowPlaying window after executing any of these.

we still need the play icon for these menu items, but that's bug 6220

This bug has recently been fixed in the latest release of SqueezeCenter 7.0.1

Please try that version, if you still see the error, then reopen this bug.
