Bugzilla – Bug 4959
MP3 file that works in Foobar2000 causes Squeezebox's audio playback to hang
Last modified: 2008-12-15 13:04:52 UTC
The bug is that whenever I try to play back a particular mp3 file, Squeezebox's audio playback hangs. By that I mean it doesn't actually play the mp3 file, and then the Squeezebox becomes incapable of playing back any other mp3 files. Turning the Squeezebox on and off doesn't fix the problem, but doing some sort of reset (i.e. holding down the power button on the remote control) does enable it to play back audio once again. I was asked to raise this bug by andyg when I posted a message on this forum thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32080&page=4 I also raised a Help Desk call (070430-002964) in reponse to this bug as I thought my Squeezebox was broken. Although when I worked out the cause of the problem (the fact that a particular mp3 file was causing problems) I removed the file and closed the Help Desk call. To reproduce the bug please do the following: 1 - Copy the mp3 file from the above URL 2 - Add the file to a SlimServer music library 3 - Attempt to play back the file with a Squeebox When I do the above, the following happens: 1 - The progress bar after the words "NOW PLAYING" shows as empty, and does not move 2 - The countdown to the right of the progress bar does not change 3 - No graphic equalizer is shown on the right-hand side 4 - No music is played back 5 - While menus still work, it is not possible to play back any other songs The only way I can get to play music back again is to reset the Squeezebox. Note that, as per my comments in the forum link above, the mp3 file in question was created by splitting a large mp3 file using the pcutmp3 application, and that the mp3 file plays back ok in Foobar2000.

This file plays OK on my Transporter (fw 31) and SB3 (fw 81) using 6.5.2. Can you please test with the latest 6.5.2 nightly build? I think this bug was already fixed.
I believe this is a duplicate of Bug 4743 and/or Bug 4750.
I updated to SlimServer build 6.5.2 + Squeezebox firmware 81, and it works perfectly. Thank you very much. (I sent a reply to the "bugs" e-mail address earlier but have posted this as well in case you didn't get my message!)
This bug appears to have been fixed in the latest release! If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look. Make sure to include the version number of the software you are seeing the error with.
