Bugzilla – Bug 4289
Fade on Pause sounds unpleasant
Last modified: 2010-05-07 10:52:57 UTC
The fade up/down on player pause/unpause sounds very jaggedy, particularly on Transporter. I would suggest that the number of steps in the fade needs increasing and the size of the steps needs decreasing to make it sound like a rapid smooth fade. Tridode has said that he will take a look at this.
Craig - couple of questions on this: - do you notice it more on pause or unpause, or just the same - do you have volume set at or near full volume?
Triode, I'd say it's both the same I do run volume on the box's at full most of the time
Is this related to bug 3904 etc? Triode, shall I assign this to you?
Chris - assign to me for the moment, but probably needs to go to Richard for firmware development. Its related to bug 2314, so assign that to me too.
I've added a revised server algorithm in r10274 (7.0 trunk) which reduces the impact of timer jitter, but not changed the rate. Following discussion with Dean - this requires firware development, so reassigning to Richard. Richard - I think it needs a new slimproto message to start a fade and a return message to trigger the callback.
I was just playing around with this in SC7 with an SB2. I don't think it's my imagination - the fade out & in with pause only happens when using the remote. Pausing and resuming from the web UI has no fade. Is that possible?
We need to have a graceful player-side fade up and down to solve this. This fade mechanism should be used during pause/unpause as well as volume adjustments to avoid clicks. Marking it SB2/3, but it should apply to all player, especially those under development. :)
This won't make it into 7.2

Doh, there will be no 7.4 - moving it to 8.0
Targeting based on engineering discussion
All new Squeezebox products are likely to be based on the SqueezePlay platform. We do not plan to implement any further enhancements to the ip3k firmware or which are targeted specifically at ip3k-based products.
