Description Craig Garnett 2006-08-10 04:02:12 UTC
Streaming flacs, when I press pause the quick fade is performed but there is a slight glitch at full volume just as the player pauses.

It appears to me that the volume is being restored to it's previous setting after the pause fade has been performed but before the player has been stopped.

The reverse is also occuring when unpausing.

What kind of player are you seeing this with, Craig?
Comment 2 Craig Garnett 2006-08-20 06:35:14 UTC
SB2's steaming flac's
it doesn't happen with sb1's or 6.3 but changing to 6.3 does change the player firmware.

I have an SB3 here now but i won't be able to set it up to test until next weekend if you want.

Ross, can you have a look at trying to reproduce this one?
Comment 4 Chris Owens 2006-08-21 11:09:01 UTC
also cc'ing our firmware developer
Comment 5 Ross Levine 2006-08-21 16:33:03 UTC
Verified. This is very noticable while pausing and unpausing.
Comment 6 Chris Owens 2006-08-21 16:37:02 UTC
What kind of hardware did you use to test this, Ross? SB2? SB3?
Comment 7 Ross Levine 2006-08-21 16:41:36 UTC
Sorry, tested with both SB2 and SB3, SS 6.5b1 - 9074 Windows XP
Comment 8 Chris Owens 2006-08-21 17:11:59 UTC
Also would be interested in your 'file types' settings. Just to verify it's not transcoding flac to anything strange. :)

BTW, I'm streaming FLAC files.
Comment 11 Craig Garnett 2006-08-27 14:27:06 UTC
I've done some additional testing.

SS6.3 with firmware 55 is ok
SS6.3 with firmware 59 is ok
ss6.5 with firmware 55 is bad
ss6.5 with firmware 59 is bad.

I figured that this would indicate whether it's a software or firmware problem.

Reassigning to Dan, and cc'ing Dean.

This is a slimserver bug caused by the fix for Bug 2314 in Slim::Player::Source::pauseSynced. The history of this fix is:
- Bug 2314 was fixed in r4679
- Bug 2387 (a stutter on pause) removed the fix in r5043
- The same fix for Bug 2314 was checked in r8591, again causing the stutter or glitch

The fix for this bug would be to revert r8391 again, but this will regress Bug 2314. Dan, hopefully you can find a solution to both bugs :)
Comment 14 Mick 2006-09-09 08:52:12 UTC
I've just moved from 6.31 FW 55 to 6.5b1 FW61/62 and this glitch has appeared as part of the move.

Can I revert just the FW back to 55 to determine if the bug if FW related or Slimserver related?
Comment 15 Dan Sully 2006-09-09 08:57:00 UTC
Subject: Re: Audible glitch when pausing

It's not firmware related - please see the bug / change details.

Comment 16 Dan Sully 2006-09-13 15:29:39 UTC
I've reverted the fix for bug 2314 until a better solution can be found.

Doesn't seem at lot of point in pushing this to 7.0 when it's fixed at the expense of bug 2314!

Would also be nice if these minor audio-affecting bugs got pushed to 6.5.1 rather than 7.0.
Comment 18 Blackketter Dean 2006-09-17 08:15:39 UTC
Sorry for the confusion. This bug is fixed, by reverting the change. But we should reopen bug 2413.
