Bugzilla – Bug 17796
Bug reports have outstripped your ability to address them
Last modified: 2011-12-12 08:37:02 UTC
Recently, it has seemed like your development team is having difficulty processing bug reports, even critical ones, in a timely manner. I am reporting this issue as a bug in the hopes that your upper management can fund & hire some additional programmers to help you out. I am sure you are all busy and I don't mean to sound rude. But I REALLY LOVE your music players (I own eleven Squeezeboxes) and wish the bugs could be fixed in a more timely manner. I am a software engineer and technology manager myself (25+ years) so I do understand what it's like not to have enough time & resources to fix things. But as a long-time customer, it's frustrating. Back when slimdevices was its own company, bug reports got handled with more agility. In the past year or two, I am guessing that bug reports have become too numerous for your team to handle. As evidence, I filed critical bug 17761 two weeks ago (a reproducible server crash) and nobody has even responded to it. Some of my other bugs have been open for 1+ years (e.g., major bug 16210). I am not saying my bugs are any more important or valuable than anyone else's, and I do appreciate that you get new releases out the door pretty regularly. I am just expressing frustration that bugs that seem to be major are not being assigned or even commented on. Right now I am encountering one-minute-long hangs in the server software when I perform certain searches. I haven't filed a bug report because I have lost some confidence my reports will be looked at. Please feel free to share this bug report with Logitech upper management.
Couldn't agree more. What we are lacking are people to triage incoming bugs and assign appropriately or tag important ones with the "bug_meeting" tag so we notice them. Bugs left unassigned with no developer CC'ed can slip through the cracks. Our QA staff is gutted and that is the real source of this problem.
Have you thought about seeking help from the open source community to triage bugs?
Is there a bugreport for the "search does hang logitech media server" problem?
