Alarm page

My Radio (firmware 7.5.0-r8673) is supposed to play the current playlist as an
alarm. It usually does. But sometimes it gets into a strange mode where
instead, the alarm plays 1 second of an unfamiliar rock song, then shuts off.

I'll attach screenshots of the alarm setup and the current playlist. As you can
see, we're at track 4 of the playlist, not at the end yet. The bad alarm is the
repeating 7:15am alarm.

Maybe the rock song is a stock alarm sound?

Please let me know what other debug information I can send.

Note about the alarm screenshot: the server UI has another bug (been around
much longer) where if your alarm sound is the Current Playlist, it's displayed
as a blank entry in the Alarm Sound dropdown. (It's correct in the Radio UI.)
That's why the Alarm Sound appears blank in the screenshot. It really is the
current playlist. Re-selecting and saving the alarm sound does not change the
problem - next time you visit the player settings page for alarms, it's blank
again. (This is on Linux Firefox 3.6.2 anyway.)

My current playlist for the alarm

Once the radio enters this mode, it ONLY plays the 1 second rock music clip every day. If I modify my playlist by browsing & choosing other music, the problem goes away. But it comes back again days later.

The bug's behavior is slightly different than I reported. After it plays 1-2 seconds of the loud rock song, there are 10 seconds of silence, and then the real alarm starts playing (in my case, quiet classical music).

I am attaching an audio file of the experience: the loud rock music, the silence, and then the real alarm.

I suspect the rock music is one of your stock alarms, but I can't figure out how to audition them.

I am raising the priority of this bug because it JOLTS people awake... this is the kind of bug that makes people throw away their alarm clock and buy a different one.

What happens: The wrong alarm, followed by silence, followed by the real alarm
Comment 5 Daniel Barrett 2010-05-25 04:23:08 UTC
More details:

Today, the alarm rang normally, playing my current playlist. The final song in the playlist ended, and immediately, the loud rock song began and played until I turned the Radio off.

So it looks like Radio behavior has changed. It used to be when the current playlist ended, the Radio would be silent. Now it's playing this loud "default" rock sound afterward. It's infuriating!

This morning, the loud rock song played again, jolting me awake. I shut off the alarm. A few seconds later, the real alarm (current playlist) started playing.

This SUCKS.

Is anybody reading these comments?

I own 10 Squeezeboxes (i.e., good customer) and I'm about to throw one of them in the trash.

There are a ton of fixes for alarms in the upcoming 7.5.1 release. I'm just going to drop this bug on the back burner until that release comes out, and then we can see what bugs are left over.
Comment 8 Daniel Barrett 2010-06-10 18:55:20 UTC
Thank you for your response, Chris. Good luck with 7.5.1.
Comment 9 Alan Young 2010-07-16 02:18:19 UTC
Daniel, do you still have this problem with 7.5.1?
Comment 10 Alan Young 2010-07-16 02:23:02 UTC
By the way, the 'loud rock music' is the backup alarm sound that is only supposed to sound if the alarm fails.
Comment 11 Daniel Barrett 2010-07-16 04:42:20 UTC
I haven't upgraded to 7.5.1 yet but will do so.

Alan - where is the "backup alarm sound" file physically located on the Radio (or server)? If 7.5.1 doesn't fix the problem, I want to replace that file with a quieter MP3.
Comment 12 Daniel Barrett 2010-09-22 04:22:22 UTC
With 7.5.1, I haven't seen the "play for 1 second" behavior, but the default "rock song" alarm came on yesterday instead of my regular alarm. It's possible the playlist finished and the rock song came on afterward.

***** Please tell me where the "backup alarm sound" file is physically located on the Radio (or server)? I want to replace that file with a quieter MP3. Thanks.

My SB Radio, running 7.5.1 r9009, will not wake up to a long-playing radio stream. Instead, it wakes up to the stream, plays for a few seconds, and then turns off. I want it to remain playing the stream for an hour, so I can wake up listening to the station. I usually use an National Public Radio stream, and want to listen to the news. Currently it only plays a few seconds and then turns off. I've tried all sorts of configuration changes, with no change in this behavior. I use mysqueezebox.com, not a locally installed server.

So, yes, the radio goes off at the right time. But what's the point if it turns itself off after a few seconds?

Thanks,

Richard Trinkner
