Bugzilla – Bug 16564
Enable turn off autoscanning on tinysc
Last modified: 2019-01-25 10:11:24 UTC
There should be an option to turn of auto scanning on Tinysc, My music library hardly changes from day to day, and i like to turn my device off when im not in the house, so everytime i turn it back on and run tinysc it takes 5mins to scan and detect that nothing has changed before i can play music.
Same problem for me. see http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86894&page=10 and following posts.

Same here. See: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88598

Even if all auto-scanning cannot be disabled, at the very least there should be an option to turn off the scan launched when the server is started. It would instantly make the Touch 10 times more usable than it is now.
I'd suggest two scan modes for Touch. 1. Auto: set as default, functions just as it does now 2. Manual: set as optional, all scans must be manually started by user
From the post given in comment 2, a suggested behavior at startup could be if library exists "Do you want to use existing library or rescan ?" If no library exists, may be something like "do you want to create a library or browse folders ?" "library" is a more user friendly word than "database" Terminology should be carefully choosen after looking at what is done in popular user friendly music softwares. I suggested "browse folders" when no library exists, if it can spare a scan and database generation. Most of the time, when you just plug a USB stick, you don't really need something else than browse folders, and display info only when you play it. Even 10 seconds of scan and database creation would be lengthy if you just want to do that.
Good suggestion ; if the box detects an existing library on a support, it could just ask whether the user wants to reuse it using the cache, or chooses to perform a new scan to detect new files/folders. i am using my box with an usb drive, pretty much like i was usong my cd player ; so this would be a lot faster...
afaic, it shouldn't even be a question that the user can disable any and all forms of "auto" scanning on either the "big" server or tiny one. while i do think its a useful feature and maybe even good to have on by default, it absolutely should not be mandatory. frankly, i shouldn't even have to justify that position, (but i will if asked).
following this message http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=90147 , a second suggestion highly useful would be that TinySBS (and why not SBS ?) behave like almost any other software and provide a "browse folders only" mode without any kind of scan (may be 99% of customer's problems) and database creation or query. This second option may deserve another Bug report ?
Another vote for. Other software lets you just browse the folders without building a new database
another vote in favor. Other music playing software lets you do this
(In reply to comment #10) > This second option may deserve another Bug report ? I believe it does.
two separate bugs have been created for the "browse folders only" mode. For Touch with TinySBS https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17545 For SBS (especially with Windows 7) https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17546
Enable turn off autoscanning on tinysc Another vote from me
TinySC will not be updated any more.
