I'm afraid to rely on this device as my single
source of a alarm clock. being late to work a few times
gets really annoying.

So here are my request:

alarm clock function: pressing volume botton turns off alarm in the morning. pressing main dial is sleep button with sleep time set in alarm menu.

This will make it a fool proof alarm clock. 

Having to use the menu for off and sleep is a bad idea.
with the chance of selecting off instead of sleep because to close together.

also, allow user to preview alarm sound.

With 7.5. you can use the volume-button for snooze and the power-button for off.

The possibility to prelisten to the sounds is already covered in some other bug-report.

marking as a dupe of bug 9057, which covers alarm sound preview.  button sleep/off is already in place.

Reopened as this is a Squeezbox Radio bug and bug 9057 is for the ip3k Player-UI. It could well be that different solutions are needed in each case.

I don't think its a good idea to leave this bug-report open.

First its not concise (i.e. the title) and talks about two different things (i.e. preview and buttons).

Second bug #9057 is not only used for ip3k! 
Just look at all the bugs James Richardson marked as duplicate (#14293, #14704), also bug #9057 was retargeted to 7.5.1 in a Fab4-review (see last comment by MickeyG).

So I vote for leaving this a duplicate of #9057.

Woops, my mistake. Not reading properly.

Actually, I'm going to make this a duplicate of bug 15231 which covers alarm sound preview for SP-based UIs.

I realise that alarm preview has been lumped together for both UIs. I just separated it again for the moment.
