Try to install XP or Vista in a non English Language
Comment 5 Michael Herger 2009-10-02 01:28:32 UTC
while there are reports about BMF failing, the issue Mikael is referring to is bug 13892

I have the same problem can not browse the music folder, it's on a local harddrive and the map is just called "musik" - I have Vista 64b Ultimate
Comment 8 Joakim Andersson 2009-10-03 01:31:56 UTC
In that folder "musik" is however a lot of Swedish names on the sub folders - so it is probably related...
Comment 9 Vaclav Greif 2009-10-03 05:15:05 UTC
Same problem here, I think it's connected with localiyed XP versions, I have Czech XP and Music Folder Browse doesn't work...

I upgraded to 7.4 a few days ago and now I cannot scan my music library (unless I clear the cache first - then it works once only). This is a major issue for me. My languaueg is English (UK) and I'm not aware of any wird characters in my files name structure. There may be the odd track name, but previous versions of SqueezeServer handled my files perfectly well. I am running Vista SP2 with music files on an attached USB drive, players are Duet + Classic. As far as I am concerned, 7.4 has introduced a bug as nothing in my setup has changed.

Peter: I don't see how your comment is relative to this bug report. Are you able to use the Browse Music Folder option or does that fail for you?

Scanning is not part of this bug.
Comment 13 Serg Ust 2009-10-05 06:51:11 UTC
using my temporal solution for fixing default Win XP codepage
see my post
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68912
I have no single trouble now to access Music Folder files (Russian, Swedish
etc)
I have about 72.000 Flac files in my library. Can access them all, have NO
scanning problems.
As my XP is installed on home server PC, this temporal Unicode to English
default codepage switching doesn't hurt PC functioning much.. But for home PC (that you
are using for work) I wont reccomend this solution.

it is a bad experiment in ver 7.4. Everything works great before the upgrade, MUSIC FOLDER remains an unsolved bugs. i tried 7.4, 7.4.1 and 7.5 (beta) and the problem still the same. Hope the technical guys can solve this asap. Meanwhile, i am reverting to 7.3 atm as temporary solution.

Bug: 14503
Description: don't try to decode file names on Windows
Comment 19 Michael Herger 2009-10-12 10:24:12 UTC
Please give tomorrow's 7.4.1 build a try. This change should fix BMF in the web UI on Windows.

Did anybody see this issue on platforms other than Windows, or on other UIs?
Comment 20 Chris Tashjian 2009-10-12 10:42:35 UTC
Michael, does your fix address the problem I reported in Bug 14474?

I'm sorry, no. That bug was incorrectly marked as a dupe.

Fixed Bug: 14503 +1
Description: fix playing an item from SP's BMF when in a path using non-latin characters. Might be the cause of bug bug 12083 too.

Create the URL before creating the object of it. Don't use the raw path.
Comment 23 James Richardson 2009-10-14 10:31:30 UTC
Verified fixed in SP r7847, SBS r28848, waiting on customer confirmation for final closure.

Could everyone having issues with BMF please download and test 7.4.1 BETA, let us know if this issue is resolved or not.
Comment 24 Vaclav Greif 2009-10-14 10:53:34 UTC
BMF works by me now (Czech XP and national characters), the characters aren't displayed correctly though (for example ď...)... Thanks for this fix...
Comment 25 Michael Herger 2009-10-14 11:17:14 UTC
I checked in a change today which will hopefully fix this. Could you
please post the details from Settings/Information?

Only tested with 1251 and 1252, but I assume your issue would be fixed by change 28851 too (see bug 14762).
