Bugzilla – Bug 14341
Auto brightness dims too aggressively
Last modified: 2010-01-01 03:55:15 UTC
In a very dark room, it it borderline unreadable, especially after the dim-more-when-idle kicks in.
If you're adding comments or votes to this bug, feel free to include: * Measured ambient light (available from Settings -> Advanced -> Factory Test -> Ambient Light Sensor) * Whether the screen brightness is too dim or too bright (adverb and phrases like "WAYYYY too dim" are useful too :) * What kind of ambient light you have (natural daylight, incandescent, flourescent, halogen, etc) Thanks!
Richard: who should handle this one?
I was about to start a new bug (and maybe I should?) but my problem with radio is that the screen, and very especially the clock does not go dark enough. I am experiencing exactly the same problem with the radio as I did with the Boom. The device is on my bedside table, about 14 inches from my face at night. The display shines onto the white bed sheet and my face. It is possible that it is reflected back into the light sensor as it was with the Boom, but I don't think so, as covering up the radio's light sensor does not enable the screen to dim further. As others have reported that the screen dims too much for them (a la this bug) might the best way to resolve it be to add the ability to set the minimum brightness as was implemented for the Boom?

It sounds like you're actually suffering from Bug#14986 - check it out & vote if you are.
There needs to be a minimum brightness setting for the Auto brightness like the Boom has.
