Description Alan Young 2009-05-31 23:17:32 UTC
There seems to be several issues related to supporting remote tracks in playlists and downloading and storing locally, and subsequently scanning, 'remote' playlists. These are probably related to the separation of local and remote tracks and playlists related to the SQLite work.

From bug 12091:

  ------- Comment #4 From Ben Kochie 2009-05-28 19:29:05 -------

This still doesn't seem to be working.

I have updated to 7.4~26754 debian package.

I downloaded the groovesalad.pls file to my playlists dir, and ran a "clear and
rescan everything). mp3 playlists are still not working.

Yes, you cannot do that. Local playlists can only contain local tracks. Remote
playlists are only supported at play time. This is because remote tracks are no
longer stored in the DB but the tracks in a scanned playlist have to be in the
DB.

I guess that there is room for improvement here.

Hrm, I have been using remote playlists as bookmarks for a number of online
stations. I also use them as alarm targets for my boom.

So I'm not sure, but I think this is preventing a number of internet radio
stations in the "Staff Picks" list to not work.

Specific example:

Squeezecenter 7.4~26785 on Ubuntu 9.04 (64bit)

Browse Internet Radio -> Staff Picks -> Best of Internet Radio.

Play Techno | SomaFM's Groove Salad (http://www.somafm.com/groovesalad.pls)

It seems to load into the playlist, but the stream never starts.

This one seems to work fine:
Title: Classical | WGBH Classical 89.7 HD2 - Boston, MA
URL: http://streams.wgbh.org/classical.pls

This one fails to play:
Title: Classical | radioioClassical
URL: http://streampoint.radioio.com/streams/147/45ec8c85a2a8a/

The failure to play does not produce any sound, but the stream elapsed time counter ticks.

Change 26874 should have restore this functionality, at least mostly.

I can now build mixed playlists with local and remote 'tracks'. They work with the Player-UI and SBC but not with the WebUI.

I am sure that there is much more tidying-up to do here.
