Description Dan Evans 2009-03-24 13:45:25 UTC
Currently, many Help pages have a button at top-right that leads to the Diagnostics page. This is not what I'd like.

All Help pages should have a button at top-right that leads to a Support page. The Support page will include text on how the user can get additional help:

"If you need further information or assistance please visit mySqueezebox.com/support. You will also find information on contacting Support there."

...Or text to that effect.

Then, on the Support page there should be a list selection or button that takes you to the Diagnostics page.

Per bug 11456, we could place the additional support help advice *here* on the Support page. It would need to be contextual, of course. That's up to Matt.

I'm fine with this. In fact, Dan, I thought the current design was what you were asking for =), we must have had a miscommunication.

Text and flow sounds fine to me... title of support screens would be the same as the relevant help screen, depending on where you came from.

Ok, so what do we need to do to get this done for MP?

Fixed in r4973, r4974.

The attached screenshot show the copy I used. I added a bit borrowed from a router I have here.

Matt/Dan please review the copy. If it's ok mark the bug resolved, if not add the copy to this bug and reassign to me.

Please use a lower-case "S" for support when using it in a sentence. Other than that this looks perfect. Will resolve when this is confirmed...
Comment 6 Blackketter Dean 2009-03-26 15:30:28 UTC
Except that "mysqueezebox.om" is spelled wrong. As is "conacting". Come on guys.

Also we should standardize on capitalization for "System Diagnostics". I propose that we use caps on both in both cases and in the menu. Finally, this is really a "more help" screen rather than a support screen.

Ok, so to clean this up:

More Help

If you need more help with your Squeezebox, please visit mysqueezebox.com/support where you can find answers to many questions and contact our support team.

If you do contact the support team, you may be asked for technical details about your Squeezebox provided by System Diagnostics, available below.

Agreed on "System Diagnostics" always being capitalized. Consistency is the important thing...

Copy from Dean looks good.

And we ideally need a "support/more help" icon from Noah for that top-right button so that users don't get lost-confused. I think that's the last thing here (other than building it) to resolve the bug.

Let's just use the word "Help" in that upper right button.

Then "More Help", or "More Info" in the case that there's more.

help button reference screen
Comment 11 Weldon Matt 2009-03-27 15:27:48 UTC
Just discussed with Dean.

Current "Help" button gets replaced with the string "Help." The button linking to the "More Help" screen should simply be labeled with the string "More."

18px freesans bold. If/when localized text versions are too wide, we expand the width of the button to accomodate the text.

Reference screen with "Help" string attached.

Just to be didactic, the words are:

Help

and

More
Comment 13 Weldon Matt 2009-03-27 15:46:30 UTC
Right.
Comment 14 Richard Titmuss 2009-03-30 09:39:18 UTC
So Dean, just to be absolutely sure in ALL places on the UI:

? changes to Help (+ the translations in this bug)

From the Help page we use More (no translations available) to get to the More Help page, that links to the system diagnostics.
Comment 15 Blackketter Dean 2009-03-30 16:49:18 UTC
That seems right to me:

Help

and

More
Comment 16 Richard Titmuss 2009-03-31 14:08:16 UTC
Fixed in several checkings, ending with r5056.
