Description Anoop Mehta 2008-12-22 13:07:43 UTC
Customer would like to have an option put into SqueezeCenter to NOT scan in artwork. Basically a skip artwork scan button or something along those lines.
Comment 1 KDF 2008-12-22 13:34:03 UTC
should be tied in with bug 9919
Comment 2 Mike Walsh 2008-12-22 19:11:12 UTC
this is interesting.

a no art scan.

a art only scan.

and a total scan, music and art.

seems like good ideas to me, esp for infrant users.

> a art only scan.

That would be bug 4874.

In truth, though, this may only really be necessary if the normal scanning and artwork cataloging don't work as spec'd. They've been working extremely well for me in the last three or four SqueezeCenter releases.
Comment 4 Mike Walsh 2008-12-24 10:19:55 UTC
i can see cases, like infrant ones, where a user would want only art, or no art, etc... its not that SC is out of spec, its a question of how long must u wait?
Comment 5 Chris Siron 2009-06-05 11:57:43 UTC
PLEASE let us disable this scan. I have more than 96,000 items in my iTunes library. It's taking more than 24 hours to scan all the art every time iTunes updates its software or I revise my libary. Worse, I don't use the artwork anyway because I have a traditional Squeezebox, not a Duet.

Andy will review the performance for 7.4 and see if this is still necessary.
Comment 7 Andy Grundman 2009-07-29 14:58:53 UTC
Moving 7.4 bugs to 8.0.
Comment 8 Michael Herger 2009-08-18 23:59:40 UTC
This option has been available for quite a while already: disable Settings/Advanced/Performance/Pre-Cache Artwork
Comment 9 Mike Walsh 2009-08-19 22:11:38 UTC
that ability is good, but it doesn't address my desires, and i'd guess others who care about this.

i want the ability to scan ONLY for art, and the ability to scan for music only, WITHOUT scanning for art.

i want to be able to choose these right in the same dropdown box i manually start other existing scan types in already. i don't want to go deep into options to do it, and really, that option is only about caching, something i would always keep on anyway.

Fixed bug 10429, add a pref for iTunes artwork scanning, scanning is now disabled by default due to the high number of problems with this feature

Thanks for sorting this, will this be in tonight's build.?
Comment 14 James Richardson 2009-10-20 07:34:39 UTC
Verified 7.4.1 r28916 now includes an option (unchecked by default) to "Extract iTunes Artwork"
Comment 15 Mike Walsh 2009-10-20 20:04:10 UTC
can someone please explain how this became an itunes bug? or am i missing something?

it seems to me that what was asked for here was an option to not scan for artwork period, not just to exclude itunes users art.

yet the "solution" seems to be about only excluding itunes art...

if i have that right, this bug was not fully/properly solved, yes?
