Excerpt of server.log

Sometimes, playing a playlist hangs at the end of a song, and I need to press the FWD key on the SB3 remote or on the web UI for the next song in the playlist to start playing.

I'm quite sure this problem is playlist-related, since I encountered it only when playing my own-made playlists or MusicIP mixes, but never when playing a whole album.

My SqueezeCenter is now running version : 7.3 - 23520 @ Sat Oct 11 03:00:46 PDT 2008, but I encountered this problem with earlier SC 7 releases.

Attached is an excerpt from my server.log (I have player.playlist and plugin.scrobbler set at debug level).
I had launched a playlist starting with "Where's Life?" from Keziah Jones that hanged at the end of the track.

Mainly add this problem with my Mac, but it arose on my ReadyNAS too.
Comment 2 James Richardson 2008-10-29 10:23:35 UTC
Steven: can you verify this one
Comment 3 Chris Owens 2008-11-24 10:22:33 UTC
Steven to keep looking for 7.3.1. Andy notes a player.source log showing the problem would be useful, and that it should be assigned to alan.
Comment 4 Sébastien Phélep 2008-11-24 10:32:13 UTC
Okay, I've set verbose mode to debugging for most player.* options.
The problem didn't occur for a while now (upgraded to 7.3 - 23960 in the meantime).
I'll post the logs whenever it happens again.

I have been suffering from what sounds like the same bug ever since upgrading to version 7.3

Last night, upgraded to 7.3.2 and problem persists.

In searching the bugs to see if it'd already been submitted, I found one from 2006 that mentioned a similar bug in cases of synchronized players. In fact, two of the players on my net have been synched for weeks. Tonight, I will try to unsynch them and see if that affects the problem.

As it is, I can only get one song at a time, must hit "next track" to hear it.

My server is running on Ubuntu, Music hardware is SlimRio (hope that doesn't make you fellers flee in horror ;-)
Comment 6 Adam 2008-12-25 21:13:52 UTC
Merry Christmas!

It works GREAT with my players unsynched.

Hope that helps!

Comment 7 Sean Echevarria 2009-01-03 20:30:03 UTC
this has some similarities to bug 7916
Comment 8 Spies Steven 2009-01-08 14:38:59 UTC
Alan, any thoughts on this one?
Comment 9 Alan Young 2009-01-08 23:56:22 UTC
Tell us again what types of players you are using: what is a "SlimRio"? (Ok, I have just googled it.) If it is something that tries to act like a SliMP3 or an SB1 (original Squeezebox) then maybe bug 10400 (fixed in the 7.3.2 nightlies) may be relevant.

Otherwise I'm not sure what we can do: the SC protocol handlers for the different player types have an intimate knowledge of how the players operate and this is often not well documented, A reverse-engineered implementation is unlikely to work reliably, especially with a feature such as sync.
Comment 10 Sébastien Phélep 2009-01-09 01:35:30 UTC
Alan, aren't you confusing bugs?
My players are SB3 and SBR only, no older stuff or software player.
Comment 11 Alan Young 2009-01-09 01:45:40 UTC
I was referring to Adam's comment #5.
Comment 12 Alan Young 2009-01-10 06:09:21 UTC
This might be a duplicate of bug 10615 but I am not sure. Does it hang after playing several tracks in a row or after the first track or a skip/restart?
Comment 13 Sébastien Phélep 2009-01-10 06:15:20 UTC
As far as I remember (the problem didn't occur again for a while, now), it sometimes hanged at the end of the first track in the playlist, but not always (ie a handful of songs played until it hanged).
Comment 14 Adam 2009-01-11 15:54:24 UTC
So far, (the timing of the fix for) bug 10400 seems to have made me all-better. Will remain synched and report if trouble recurs

I have has constant problems with my playlist hanging over the past month. I have to manually press play to get the next song to play. In my case if I look at Squeezecenter the first 5 seconds of the track are constantly looping with no sound. This among many other problems that I've been having are detailed in Bug #10436 which has been turned into bug#10680, 10681&10682.

I go into a lot of detail in bug#10436, I sent a log and they created the other bugs. It and all of my other problems only happen when sync'ing players. I play one player every night for the last month for 3 hours to go to sleep with zero problems. I sync my four players during the day and have had over a month of constant problems. The same 4 players sync'ed with zero problems in the same setup through every version of 6.5. Nightmare when 7,1-7.3 hit. It's pretty surprising to see different bug#'s describing the same things.
Comment 16 Alan Young 2009-01-19 12:11:01 UTC
The point is that there are different underlying bugs with the same or similar symptoms. Some affect only synced players, some synced or unsynced.
Comment 17 Chris Owens 2009-03-16 09:38:22 UTC
We are now planning to make a 7.3.3 release. Please review your bugs (all marked open against 7.3.3) to see if they can be fixed in the next few weeks, or if they should be retargeted for 7.4 or future.

Thanks!
Comment 18 Alan Young 2009-03-16 09:45:48 UTC
Sebastien, are you still having this problem?
Comment 19 Chris Owens 2009-03-30 17:30:41 UTC
Since there's now a planned 7.3.3 release, bugs which won't make the cut-off are being moved to the next target out. If you feel that this bug needs to be addressed more (or less) urgently than the 7.4 release, please cc chris@slimdevices.com and leave a comment in the bug to that effect so we can review it.

Thanks.
Comment 20 Chris Owens 2009-03-31 08:53:01 UTC
For some reason Bugzilla did not change the target when I did this yesterday. Or maybe it was me. In either case, I'm trying it again.
Comment 21 Alan Young 2009-06-09 02:30:26 UTC
In the absence of further feedback from Sebastien, I'm marking this as fixed in 7.3.3.
Comment 22 James Richardson 2009-06-17 09:35:39 UTC
This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.3 release version of SqueezeCenter!

If you haven't already. please download the new version from http://www.logitechsqueezebox.com/support/download-squeezecenter.html

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
