Description Dan Evans 2008-10-03 15:55:49 UTC
I was setting up an SB3 at a friend's house last night and found that it would not successfully set up onto SN. You'd go through the entire setup routine, you'd see "Connecting to SqueezeNetwork...", then the player would immediately revert to the start of the setup process.

The SB3 had firmware 81 installed.

Connecting to SC was successful. Firmware updated. Connecting to SN was then successful.

I just walked through this with Steven and he confirmed it.

Firmware 86 does not exhibit this issue. Is this something that can be fixed via SqueezeNetwork or is the only solution to update the firmware?
Comment 2 Chris Owens 2008-10-06 09:53:33 UTC
Andy reinstated an old service that had gotten removed from SN. Andy requests QA to try to understand what conditions this fails or succeeds.

Felix is working on bug 9706 which may affect or duplicate this bug.
Comment 5 Ross Levine 2008-10-21 14:32:33 UTC
Andy what sort of conditions did you want tested, could you elaborate please?
Comment 6 Andy Grundman 2008-10-21 14:44:30 UTC
I would say these should be tested:

DHCP, good DNS server
DHCP, bad DNS server
DHCP, no DNS server
Same, with static IP

See if any of them actually do a DNS lookup and connect to the correct SN IP, or if they all go to the old hardcoded IP.
Comment 7 Ross Levine 2008-10-23 17:54:07 UTC
DHCP, good DNS server- FAIL, back to setup
DHCP, bad DNS server- FAIL, back to setup
DHCP, no DNS server- FAIL, back to setup

 Static, good DNS server- WORKS
Static, bad DNS server- FAIL, back to setup
Static, no DNS server- FAIL, blank screen

Wow, this really sucks. We need to update the version in the factory ASAP.
Comment 9 Blackketter Dean 2008-10-26 13:11:24 UTC
I'm really confused here.

Are we saying that the factory FW for SB3 is fundamentally broken for users trying to connect to SN for the first time? What other players does this affect?

Have hat version of FW has been released to the factory?

What's the service that was reinstated on SN?
Comment 10 Ross Levine 2008-10-27 16:35:05 UTC
Can anyone help me, what firmwares are currently shipping from factory for each player?

Dean, yes SB3 shipping with fw81 will not connect to SqueezeNetwork.
Comment 11 Ross Levine 2008-11-03 14:23:14 UTC
Factory firmware, Boom 32, Receiver 18, SB3 88, Transporter 18.

Boom fw 32 connecting to SN from factory reset, works, updates to 33.
Transporter fw18 connecting to SN from factory reset, works, updates to 63.
SB3 fw 88 connecting to SN from factory reset, works, no update.
SB3 fw 81 connecting to SN from factory reset, works, updates to 113.

Should this be marked as fixed (and verified) now that the service has apparently been reinstated?
Comment 12 Andy Grundman 2008-11-03 14:54:28 UTC
Yeah let's mark it fixed. We'll have to keep the old IP and redirector service around indefinitely, but it's working much better now and should not crash anymore.
Comment 13 Ross Levine 2008-11-03 14:55:20 UTC
Thanks Andy.
