Bugzilla – Bug 8660
Large pop-up image when hovering over album thumbnail rendering issues
Last modified: 2009-07-31 10:24:11 UTC
Product: SqueezeCenter Version: 7.1 - 21030 @ Mon Jun 23 01:40:13 PDT 2008 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252 Problem: Using Safari 3.1.1 in mac OS 10.5.x, when hovering the mouse cursor over top of the Album Thumbnail in the Now Playing portion of the default web interface a small rounded rectangle will appear instead of the pop-up showing an elargement of the image. Please see crop of screen capture attached. Regression: This problem does not occur in Firefox 3 nor Camino 1.5, two Mozilla-based browsers. Happens with all 7.x versions of Squeeze Center as far as I'm aware (7.0, 7.01 and 7.1)

Tracking Keywords: Apple, Mac, Safari, Webkit, render, display
Newer version of Squeeze Center now shows the image preview/pop-up: SqueezeCenter Version: 7.1 - 21576 @ Tue Jul 8 01:04:57 PDT 2008 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252 However, there are rendering issues with the position of the image plus the border effect drawn around it. Simply moving the browser window left and right (without resizing or moving it vertically) causes the image to get cut off and displayed under the top part of the browser. This happens when there's plenty of space on the screen for it to appear where it would in the other example. See newly attached images.

The image boarder the issue here, in IE6/7 there is a much wider boarder around the image when pop up happens.
Note in the screen shots you can also see the border has broken segments, not only that the horizontal thickness is different from the vertical.
Can't reproduce these issues. How do you move the window without the popup disappearing? BTW: there's a "Keywords" field - no need to post a reply with them.
You move the browser window normally and then cause the pop-up to appear again. I'm sorry I wasn't specific, the pop-up does not stay active while moving the browser. You can safely ignore the first message since that issue is different with the new build I mentioned. What I'm seeing is that in Safari (only) the pop-up comes up in a different position depending on where on the screen the browser window is located. This happens even when the browser window is not clipped by a screen edge and is not resized, so there is no requirement from a display perspective to reposition the pop-up. I mention that last part just in case someone speculates that the pop-up changes position just like pop-up menus do automatically depending on how close they are to a screen edge and whether they'd be cut off by displaying in their normal (drop down and right) fashion. Issues: 1. Position of pop-up window 2. Border nor even all around pop-up window 3. Border broken (missing sections) around pop-up window One or more of these may be due to a quirk in Safari's layout and rendering engine set off by the way the feature is implemented (CSS, JScript, etc..) Sidenote: The keywords field provided in in this Bugzilla implementation is locked to specific keywords, none of which can take the place of the ones I had to insert myself. :) That's why I called them "tracking keywords."

changing description, as the issue seems to be related to the artwork's size. I don't have this big artwork files, thus never realised the issue.
Contrary to what it says in the duplicate bug (now closed), the images are in fact being constrained to a maximum size. They likely won't appear in 100% size unless they are smaller than whatever maximum has been defined in SC. I have plenty of album artwork that's bigger than what gets displayed in the pop-up, so the size reduction aspect of the feature seems to be working. Right now it's still about the positioning and border rendering.
The maximum size defined in SC might be too big for the artwork used to render the background/framing element (the blueish). It looks differently broken in Safari (gap) vs. IE/FF (whatever Phil's been using - to small). But it looks to me that the missing pixels to the right of Phil's screenshot are about the same size as your gap. I'll test with all these browsers and some large artwork.
My screenshots were from FF3.
Could you please check the _rendering_ issue again (where there was a gap in the blueish background). Haven't found a solution for the postioning yet.
change 21800 - force the popup's position to be below-right of the mouse cursor
Feel free to re-open this bug if you consider it not fixed. Thanks!
SqueezeCenter Version: 7.1 - 21854 @ Fri Jul 18 01:03:55 PDT 2008 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252 Verified that in Safari, border is no longer missing sections and image no longer seems to jump under the browser toolbar. Closing this bug.
