Description John Scudder 2008-07-01 12:23:19 UTC
Apple Lossless, like other non-native formats, cannot fast forward/rewind. Some of the discussion in Bug 571 seems to indicate that there is some hope for fixing this. I would guess there are quite a few people who would benefit -- basically anyone who manages their library with iTunes and uses a lossless format.

(The hack I briefly considered implementing is simply to transcode to a temp file instead of a pipe, and then have slimserver play back the temp file which would of course be in a native format and therefore support FF/RW. I assume there is some good reason this simple expedient has been rejected.)

I'm marking this as a duplicate of 571 and change the latter's description to match the real issue (can't ffwd transcoded streams). Please follow up on bug 571. Thanks

No specific plans to look at this in the near future.

FWIW, I am a longtime slimdevices customer and I've been waiting a long time for this feature. I had hopes for bug 571, but not luck for ALAC listeners. Most of my library is in ALAC format, and I know many other Slimdevices customers use this format too from previously (resolved!) bug issues. I would appreciate being able to seek in songs.
