Bugzilla – Bug 862
allow search by range of years
Last modified: 2011-11-06 23:23:00 UTC
the adv'd search allows search for a single year; would be great to be able to search by a range of years, ie with two fields for start and end years.

I notice #526 was marked as duplicate of this request. Not sure this is the really the same request. What I requested was a year limiter, not a browse/search tool. Not that this couldn't provide the same function but it doesn't sound like it would. I'd like to be able to add tracks to the playlist using the existing browse methods (Genre/Artist/Album), but have the client only play tracks from the selected years. So for example, let's say I add my entire Pop genre which covers tracks from 1950-2005. If I want to hear tracks from 1984-1997, I would adjust the start/end dates and only those titles would be played. The key here is that if I want to alter my mood and play 2000-2005, I would simply adjust the dates. This would allow the listener to make "mood" changes without having to recreate a playlist which users in my household find rather cumbersome. Perhaps this isn't possible under the current architecture (i.e. the current playlist cannot be filtered at run time). If so, a year filter would be nice but it should apply to all browse functions not just advanced search (unless the advanced search tools are sticky and they stay in place while browsing). Setting the filter to 1984-1997 and navigating to Browse Genre Pop would only display songs within the date range which could be added easily.
