I just noticed that I can set an alarm and turn it on without choosing a playlist for the alarm.  When the alarm was triggered no sound was produced.

There should be a default alarm sound in this situation.

max has already had this in the design plan for a while.

See bug 8499 for a request for alarm tones.

In the absence of alarm tones, I guess it should probably just pick something at random and play it.
