Bugzilla – Bug 8499
Squeezecenter should include an alarm tone
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:29:41 UTC
It would be good if an alarm tone (or several?) was included in squeezecenter. For example, a wav file that just goes beep beep in an alarm-type way. This could then be used as a fallback for situations when the alarm would otherwise produce no noise - e.g. when current playlist is selected but it is empty, or when a remote stream can not be played for some reason. Some users may even want the ability to select an alarm tone as the default alarm playlist, in which case it might make sense to include several (traditional alarm bell, 80s style radio alarm buzzer etc etc).

You could use the Natural Sounds
Natural sounds come from squeeze network, don't they? This wouldn't be too good as a fallback for situations when network connections have already failed e.g. radio streams. Besides, I think having a variety of specific alarm sounds would be quite a cool feature - especially if they were well chosen.
Should we perhaps include some of the SN alarm sounds in the SC distro?
It would be useful to be able to trigger the current internal alarm tone via a slimproto command. I don't think this is possible at the moment.
7.2.1 now includes an alarm tone. It's just a beep and is only used when an alarm playlist fails to play. Would still be cool to have some proper, user-selectable alarm tones but that can be another bug.
This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.0 release version of SqueezeCenter! Please download the new version from http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html if you haven't already. If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
