Description Osama Zaidan 2008-06-17 12:45:16 UTC
Pandora will stop playing after one or two songs when connected to SN.

This behavior is not prevalent when connected to SC.

Support has seen this issue with about three customers and Pandora support has emailed us with three other customers.

I sent this link to the customer I have been dealing with so he can add info if needed.
Comment 1 Anoop Mehta 2008-06-17 13:03:36 UTC
This bug was created without any logs becuase it only happens when our customers are connected to SN. The issue does not seem to come up when connected to SC.
Comment 2 Andy Grundman 2008-06-17 13:05:02 UTC
One of the users who contacted Pandora was using SC, though.
Comment 3 Anoop Mehta 2008-06-17 13:06:53 UTC
Yes...I believe that was Julius' customer. Both osama and I have customers who see this issue only with SN.
Comment 4 ptnole1 2008-06-19 19:20:17 UTC
Ben from Logitech told me to post here. I'm having the same problem. When connected to the squeeze network, Pandora will only play 1 song and then stop. You can press play again, but it will only play one song and then stop.
Comment 5 Dan Evans 2008-06-20 10:24:21 UTC
We continue to get reports of this. These are from customers via Pandora Support:

"I have a squeezebox duet. When using squeeze network when Iā€™m playing a tune from one the channels on pandora, the music will just stop playing. When I press the right arrow for next tune; another tune plays and it continues that way."

Another:

"Everything was find for about 4 days to a week. Then I notice that my stations would start a song, then drop that song and start another one. Why does it do this?"

Another:

"You have a wonderful product, but are you aware that it does not work at all reliably on the squeezebox duet? When controlled from the squeezebox controller, the stream stops after each song (not all the time but much of the time) and needs to be restarted."

Another:

"Just lately (I had no problems like this for the initial couple of months with my Duet), after selecting one of my Pandora radio stations, the music starts to play and then just before the song ends, the feed stops. If I press the forward button on the Duet controller, the next song starts to play and then near the end of that song it stops again."

These from customer via Logitech Support:

"For some reason, since the last upgrade, more often than not, when trying to listen to Pandora, just before the song finishes the feed stops. This happens with every song. Using the forward button on the the Duet controller, I can skip to the next song, but can't get continouous play. ... it happens only if I am connecting to Pandora via squeezenetwork through the duet controller." (080613-001658)

Another:

"When hooked up through the squeeze network and trying to play a Pandora station, it will play 1 song and then it stops and the clock face shows up. If you hit the play button again it will play one more song and then stop again after that song is finished." She also made a comment that it works fine via SqueezeCenter. (080612-002892)

A phonecall:

"PROBLEM - duet - Pandora plays one song then stops / NOTES - XP / TROUBLESHOOTING/RESOLUTION - problem does not occur when connected to SC" (080618-000623)

Can anyone reproduce this? Try messing with repeat, shuffle, crossfade, or other settings.
Comment 7 Julius Dauz 2008-06-20 10:34:07 UTC
This happened to me the other day also. A customer that I created bug 8003 reported this as well. I tried reproducing this through SC with some debug settings, but it does not happen through SC only through SN.
Comment 8 dlandsman 2008-06-20 16:43:48 UTC
I agree with the comments below. Pandora seems to timeout after about 3-4 minutes. The timeout often happens before even one song is complete. I've noticed this with SN, but have not tested extensively with SC. I have toyed with settings such as shuffle, crossfade, etc. per Andy's request and this did not have any affect.

Unable to reproduce this using SqueezeNetwork (sv) r3922/r20970

Tested with Transporter r43
SqueezeBox 3 r88
Receiver r23
Controller r2551

Tested; multiple "stations", Love Track, Ban Track, Skip track, Bookmark.

Tested; repeat, shuffle, cross fade, player sync.

What players (firmware) have people been able to repeat this bug on?
Comment 10 James Richardson 2008-06-24 15:03:29 UTC
Tested with 7.0.1 firmware on SqueezeNetwork (sv) r3922/r20970

Tested with Transporter r37
SqueezeBox 3 r88
Receiver r23
Controller r2448

Still unable to reproduce the error

OK, I think I have been able to reproduce the error, however, ONLY on the SB Duet and ONLY after playing a Pandora station for more then 8 hours.

Can anyone else having the problem confirm that they only see the problem after having played a single Pandora station for more then 8 hours that they then get the idle time out message, then have problems?

Is anyone using an SB3 or Transporter seeing the issue?

Comment 14 James Richardson 2008-06-25 09:06:27 UTC
Here is the only case I am able to get Pandora to fail under

1) Attach a Duet to SC 7.0.1
2) Switch the Duet to SqueezeNetwork
3) Start a Pandora station
4) Let it play for more then 8 hours or until Pandora has reached it's 8 hour play limit
5) Pandora will generate an "Idle Timeout" message
6) Restart the Pandora station by clicking on PLAY from the Player/Web UI
7) A single Pandora song will play then stop as if there are no other songs in the playlist.

A temp fix for this issue;
Power Cycle both the Controller/Receiver
or
Disconnect from SN connect to SC then connect back to SN

See attached log snippet during the time of the error.

Regarding the 8 hour play limit. I have had this bug after the SB Duet has been off for several hours or overnight. It would appear that Pandora is not aware that we have disconnected when listening through SqueezeNetwork.

I have also sent feedback to pandora via SB, ie "I like this song" to see if idle time was the issue. Still the bug occurs after some random time. Sometimes I can listen for hours other times it starts right away.

Continued reports of this. (3 more today from Pandora) One contained some additional information, pasted below:

We usually play Pandora in the eveninngs on weekdays, but this has happened on weekends during the day also. I believe this started after upgrading squeezbox software to 7.0, but I'm not absolutely positive. I have found one more quirk - not sure if this coinicidental or not, but I happen to have my laptop on with squeezecenter running, then it doesn't seem to stop like it does when I only have the duet running. I have two receivers and it doesn' matter which one, or if I have both running as to if it stops. It also does not matter which of the Pandora stations I have running. One more thing is that I can listen to internet FM stations just fine with no stoppage. Sometimes I can have it running playing Pandora for an hour or so with no stopping and then suddenly it quits. It always quits about 30 seconds before the actual end of the song.

OK I think this has been fixed on SN, the Jive interface uses different code than SC and wasn't updating lastActivityTime properly.

I cannot reproduce with SC.

Osama: please retest with SqueezeCenter 7.1-21796. if you still see the error, then reopen the bug with added comments.

James,

I was unable to reproduce this bug with the build you suggested to test it on.

I did notice some odd behavior this morning.

Last night, I stared a Padora stream while connect to Squeezenetwork from my Office Duet. This was an attempt to get the Duet to time out after 8 hours.

This morning, from home, I connected my Home Duet to SN and played the same exact Pandora station as was playing on my Office Duet, Smashing Pumpkins Radio Station. It played fine, but when I tried to give the current song that was playing a "Thumbs UP" from the Controller, I received the 500 SSL Readtime out error.

I got to work this morning and found my Duet still playing the same station I played last night, so it never timed out.

I know this is un-related to this bug, but figured I'd add the comment anyway.

This bug has now been fixed in the 7.1 release version of SqueezeCenter! Please download the new version from http://www.slimdevices.com if you haven't already.

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
