Comment 2 Dan Evans 2008-08-18 12:45:54 UTC
This issues seems to have faded away. We don't see it much at all anymore. It's generally just straight up connection issues now.

Have the customer remove the existing JIVE.BIN file from their system, then restart SC.

Open explorer and brows to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SqueezeCenter\Cache\"
Delete the existing jive*.bin file
Stop SqueezeCenter
Start SqueezeCenter
Attempt firmware update again

Please make NOTE of the Firmware Version currently on the Controller as well as the version which FAILED to update.
Comment 7 Dan Evans 2009-09-24 09:36:23 UTC
Support team-- do we still see this as an issue? Has it faded away for the most part? Please chime in here.

I'm adding myself to this bug, as advised by James Richardson. Here is my report, originally added to Bug 14447:

After installing S-Server 7.4.0 and then 7.4.1 (r28740), my SBC claims an upgrade waiting, but will not upgrade. The upgrade downloads, starts to verify, then I get this message: "Upgrade failed. There was a problem upgrading this remote. Please try again, or contact support."

I repeatedly have tried turning off and rebooting the SBC, at first with the power button, then by removing the battery, without success.

I am using a Duet with Windows XP and wireless networking. Fortunately, the
Duet continues to work otherwise.

P.S. Current SBC version is 7.3 r6038.

I reinstalled S-Server 7.3.1, and tried the SBC upgrade again. It worked. Strange!

I think this issue has faded away, at least as a critical-issue. Latest firmware seems to address this.

Closing as WORKSFORME.

Even though closed, this bug is still bugging me. At least, J.R. has advised that the symptoms I am seeing fall under this bug.

I am using a Duet.

Squeezebox Server Status
Version: 7.5.0 - r30464 @ Thu Apr 1 05:51:56 PDT 2010
Hostname: AZALEA
Server IP Address: 192.168.10.122
Server HTTP Port Number: 9000
Operating system: Windows XP - EN - cp1252
Platform Architecture: 586
Perl Version: 5.10.0 - MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt
Total Players Recognized: 1

The Controller offers the upgrade to 7.5.0 on every power on. The upgrade downloads but the install fails. Then I am offered the upgrade again. I have tried rebooting everything and reinstalling the server software. I see by looking at this board that the only thing that got the LAST upgrade to install was a factory reset of the Controller. It is quite TEDIOUS to enter all the settings onto the controller for each and every upgrade.

If there is anything I can try before I do another factory reset, please advise. There is no cache directory, so I can't delete it, but I have captured a tracerte as described above and will gladly send it to someone if you still want it.

For anyone else attempting this: On my system the location is

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Squeezebox\Cache\"

not .....\SqueezeCenter\Cache as posted.
