Description Matthew J. Martin 2008-06-11 11:15:16 UTC
The space and upper case 'i' characters are illegible with the shrinking underscore -- space looks like a period '.' and upper case i looks like an exclamation '!'.

Suggest the full width underscore for these characters, or a minimum underscore 'padding' on chars of a certain width, like 2px on either side of a 1px wide char, for example.
Comment 1 Jim McAtee 2008-06-11 12:51:54 UTC
The very narrow font becomes an issue when entering any "thin" character, such as space, comma, period, i, I, |, [, ], etc.

See the enhancement request of bug 3450. Using a fixed width font would also fix this problem.
Comment 2 Michael Herger 2008-06-14 01:29:38 UTC
not a Felix issue
Comment 3 Chris Owens 2008-07-07 10:11:06 UTC
Dean is there anything that can be done about this in the font? Or is there another solution you can think of?
Comment 4 Blackketter Dean 2008-07-18 09:22:50 UTC
Yes, I think we should pad the underline one pixel to the left and right of the character width.

Triode: Would this be something you could take a look at?

This is in input text mode for the server? The related bug is for the player firmware.

Do we want the display to move as we move the cursor back and forward - to appear to magnify the character selected?
Comment 6 Adrian Smith 2008-07-18 15:32:08 UTC
Dean - I notice there's a unicode character in input.text which does not render correctly. (scroll up from 0 in search) I assume it can go as we can't display it but its been there for some time - was it ever anything useful?
Comment 7 Adrian Smith 2008-07-18 15:58:42 UTC
Try change 21899 - this should make the cursor wider for characters which are less than three times the width of the intercharacter space.
Comment 8 Blackketter Dean 2008-07-19 04:26:27 UTC
Ug! Good find, Triode. That character is bogus. No idea where it came from. Let's kill it.

The underscore definitely looks better. Matthew & JJ, does it work for you?
Comment 9 Blackketter Dean 2008-07-25 07:08:18 UTC
I'm ready to close this as fixed. Matthew? JJ?

Please reopen if you think it still needs work.

How does one verify? Do I need to manually switch my boom to an alternative SqueezeNetwork server?

I don't see any change using my boom+SN.
Comment 13 James Richardson 2008-07-28 13:40:00 UTC
Matthew: sorry, I closed this bug to early, we need to wait for new Boom.SN code to be put up.

Can you please re-test this on 29JUL08
Comment 14 Matthew J. Martin 2008-07-31 09:21:55 UTC
verified w/ Booom.SN
Comment 15 James Richardson 2008-12-15 12:39:10 UTC
This bug has been fixed in the 7.3.0 release version of SqueezeCenter!

Please download the new version from http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html if you haven't already.

If you are still experiencing this problem, feel free to reopen the bug with your new comments and we'll have another look.
