Description Max Spicer 2008-05-27 02:20:19 UTC
There should be a separate setting for "Alarm" brightness in addition to
Power on, Power off and Idle. At present alarm uses "idle" brightness (except
for the initial short burst of "power on" brightness when audio starts). "Idle"
brightness will be dim and when alarm goes off it may not be possible to see
the display without hitting a key which either cancels the alarm or starts a
snooze. With a separate "Alarm" brightness the user can select the display
brightness as they fit and not a compromise with idle which is probably used
when falling asleep and also there could be no initial burst of Power on
brightness which could be max.

Would it be possible when the alarm goes off to temporarily increase the font size to the max, so the time shows up clearly? I don't think anyone needs to see the date for the first 60 seconds or so when the alarm triggers (unless they wake up in a drunken fog). Reverting back to the font preference could occur after 60 or so seconds, or when any button/remote key is pressed.

Alarm behaviour is an area where there have been and there will be lots of suggestions of nice options and it is hard to say which ones should be included.

I noted in enhancement 7949 that a separate screensaver mode for snooze would be useful - it might be better to have a separate mode for alarm active (which would also include snooze) as it would allow users to customise alarm/snooze behaviour easily. Whereas at present the alarm module/DateTime modules could get very complex when a lot of options are added.

Please file a separate bug for discussion of font changes during alarms. The two issues are distinct.
