Bugzilla – Bug 8005
Now Playing Screensaver should enter Now Playing State
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:26:36 UTC
In the SB3 interface, the now playing screensaver takes you to the now playing state. By this I mean that no matter what you where doing, once it triggers you can navigate the playlist with the up/down keys, and return to now playing entry on the main meny with the left key. So you can learn how to get where you want from the now playing state with fixed key stroke sequences. In the Controller, the now playing screensaver overlays the current state, leaving you with no single way to navigate to the playlist or menu. You have to look at the controller, press buttons, and decide what to do. (N.B. the home key does not take you home from the screensaver, it just clears the screensaver). I find this continuously annoying. What I was doing before I started things playing is not very interesting any more, and can be gotten to by starting at home and pressing the button, since home remembers my last path down the menu tree. But what i normally want to do is to do something in the now playing list! So either change the screensaver or provide and alternate screensaver or option that matches the SB3 behavior. (and it would be nice if the status bar showed in the screensaver, which I guess is implied if the screensaver just goes to the now playing state.)

I to not beliueve this is not a duplicate of 7945. 7945 asks for additional info on the now playing screen. This is in response to a comment in bug_7944. It is about the screensaver, NOT now playing. The comment is: "A secondary question is whether upon waking from the Now Playing screensaver you jump back to where you were or you are left on the Now Playing screen. This is the classic "Jump Back On Wake" behavior, which is treated like a separate screensaver on SB3 and Transporter interfaces. I propose that we add this option to the Controller setting and leave the default as it is on SB3/Transporter. (Please feel free to file a bug for this enhancement.)" The subtle difference between jump back on wake to now playing and this request is in how many times you will need to press the button to get from the screensaver to the active playlist list - once or twice. It takes one press from the now playing screen.
Dean, what do you think on this bug?
I agree 100%. When I pick up the remote and the now playing screen is on it and press the center button, it should go to the playlist. This is the "no jump back on wake" in the classic player UI, which is the default. I think that there are folks who like "jump back on wake" (I"m not one of them), so we should also consider adding an option for "jump back on wake".
I think this bug was erroneously closed as a dup of 7945, when in fact it is a duplicate of 7914. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 7914 ***
