Description Philip Meyer 2008-04-28 15:35:36 UTC
I have some albums with different contributing artists, in which I have set an album artist to get the album to be listed under that artist.

However, albums appear under "various artist" unless a compilation tag is set to 0; the scanner is incorrectly guessing that it is a compilation.

I believe that an album artist tag should cause the scanner to assume that the album is not a compilation.

(The work-around is to force all songs to have a COMPILATION=0 tag).

also bug 4755 and finally bug 5108 (loosely related, but tied to the use of compilation=0)

Steven to investigate.
Comment 4 Philip Meyer 2008-04-28 23:55:37 UTC
I looked at bugs 4361 and 4755, but they didn't appear related (and they are closed).

5108 is losely connected, so I could add a note to that, but I feel this bug is slightly different.

If songs on a album have an album artist, it should ignore any compilation tag and assume compilation=0.

If an album is a compilation, if effectively makes the album artist="Various Artists".

closed bugs still contain relevant discussion.

Phil,

can you post some files to this bug that allow one to reproduce?

in my case, for mp3s treating TPE2 as album artist, i don't have SC identifying ANY of them as compilations. (and i use no comp tags)

in other words, i'm not seeing the issue and i wonder why you are?

Adding new_schema keyword for future discussion.

Phil,

any response to my previous comment forthcoming?

Have you tried any Flac files having different artists, but with ALBUMARTIST set? I'm pretty certain that they'll be marked as compilations.

The 'treat TPE2 as ALBUMARTIST' setting is relatively new and Mp3s with TPE2 may not be treated the same, although they should.

I have been looking for some examples, but I don't seem to have any now.

I thought this was because I had set COMPILATION tags to avoid the issue. However I have taken off the COMPILATION tags and performed a full rescan and I am not seeing that behaviour any more.

So, it appears that the issue has already been fixed.

Jim,

i missed your comment before...

i don't have ANY flac files, but i assume you do, yes?

why don't you run such an experiment?

remove all comp tags from a VA cd you rip as both flac and mp3, and then set TPE2 for the mp3s, and ALBUM ARTIST for the flac files, and see what happens.

imo, the flac version should NOT be identified as a compilation. if it is, that would be inconsistent and would be wrong in the case of the flac file.

i can tell you the mp3s with TPE2 set are def NOT identified as a comp.
Comment 12 Mike Walsh 2009-03-30 14:00:29 UTC
my comment above, #11 assumes of course that you set SC to treat TPE2 as Album Artist.

in any case, i think this bug should be closed as resolved, fixed, whatever, unless someone else still sees an issue of some kind?

I use FLAC files and list several contributing artists under ARTIST, I list only one artist under ALBUM ARTIST, yet during playback I see all the contributing artists...not just the album artist as I intended.

thats an issue for the forum, not this bug, which probaly should be closed.

ask in the forum and help will be forthcoming.

Marking as fixed per last few comments.
