Bugzilla – Bug 7959
New Resizable panels don't resize on ie7
Last modified: 2011-04-28 10:33:13 UTC
Apr-23 build. Server Windows XP Browser: IE7 on Windows XP or Vista No resizing of panels. Odd display of lower right panel where the icons are. A horiz. gap in the border. Seems to refresh the left panel often - at least a lot more than previously. I've had the right side now playing section not refreshing at all. Displaying a previous playlist with "musical note" symbol for a song that isn't in the current playlist, let alone playing. The upper right IS correct all of the time. Clearing out the playlist with the icon had no effect. Refresh had no effect. Exiting the browser and going back in did display the current info. but wouldn't update after that. The now playing issue seems to have just started occurring with last nights build. All other issues have been there since the announcement that there was resizing capability (within a day or 2 anyway, I didn't update 7.2 right away). Are there any log files, etc. that I could capture to assist?
this is actually 7.1/7.2 WEB interface issue, but don't want to open it up now.
Right, but I'm letting you guys decide what should be opened up and when. My understanding is that anything 7.2 is restricted.
from http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1617913&SiteID=1 "This is a very common problem in IE in general not just IE7." Argh...
Hmm... and Opera 9.50 Beta 2 doesn't work neither :-(
better to be safe, Doug so that's ok (but I'm not going to re-set or open it up in case the history on the bug shows its former boom status). The important part was to have it reassigned to Michael, which is what the rest of the bugzilla maintainers are here to do.
Created attachment 3301 [details] printscreen of right bottom boarder gap
I just tried Safari on Windows Vista. The resizing seems to work fine there. There is still a display issue with the bottom of the right panel - it has a horizontal gap in it. I just attached a print screen. Should this be another issue or left on here?
Doug - what browser is this? Safari on Windows? That's the one I haven't installed yet (testing with FF3 and IE8 already...)
Correct, Safari on Windows Vista. Both Safari on Windows Vista and IE7 on Vista and XP show the odd bottom/right border issue (in the attached screen shot). Safari version is 3.1.1 (525.17). With Safari it doesn't seem to remember the position of the splitter when the browser is closed and reopened - not sure it is a bug, though.
Doug - please shut down SC and clean its template cache. I don't see the playlist gap in any browser I have. I even tested with Safari/Win, IE8 and FF3.
Is SC's "template cache" the "server\CPAN\Template" folder and all of it's subfolders or the "server\CPAN\Template\Stash" folder? This is a server-side cache, not a client one, right?
> Is SC's "template cache" the "server\CPAN\Template" folder and all of it's > subfolders or the "server\CPAN\Template\Stash" folder? Do _not_ touch these! If you kill them, SC won't start again. The CPAN folder carries all the 3rd party modules we're using in SC :-) > This is a server-side cache, not a client one, right? Yes, it's server side. You'll find the cache folder path in settings/status.
Ahhh... That's where it is. I was going through and pulling my hair out renaming every other file reference to *cache* to something else. Didn't even think to look over there on XP. I ended up fully uninstalling and reinstalling. That cleared the border display issue up. One odd thing I'll just note is that this machine went directly from released 7.0 to this 7.2 build and got the issue so there might be an upgrade problem that needs to be researched. The other issues of no splitter and the playlist with ie7 not updating except when first opened still exist, though. Attaching a screenshot of the playlist not refreshed just in case it helps. Note that the top currently playing doesn't match the what the note icon in the lower part shows. The top is correct because I clicked on play for track 2 (6th one down) and then hit the browser refresh. Also note that hitting the "x" clear icon causes the playlist to be cleared but not the display - it still shows all of the tracks. Please let me know if any of this should be reported on a different bug or if you still would like all of them grouped here.

Just saw your forum post on the refresh portion of this - I'll retest tomorrow after it is moved over here. THANKS!!
Michael says he's spent a ton of time trying to make this work, and has high hopes for future versions of ie. Patches are welcome if anyone has some bright ideas!
If the splitter can't be made to work would it be possible to have a field in the settings screen where the size (or percentage) could be manually entered? Something like "IE7 Left Pane Size". I'd even think that expressing it in "albums" would work for me - I'd like to have 3 large artwork albums per line, essentially.
We'll keep this on the books to see how many votes it gets or support calls or other info.
Created attachment 4424 [details] the split banner disappears on the left side of the window after a resize SC 7.3 (on Ubuntu 7.04), FF3 on Vista. Screenresolution 1280*720. Steps to reporduce Open SC in a fullscreen FF-window, move the splitter to the far left size resize the FF to the original (smaller) size.
FWIW: I just installed the Windows 7 beta with its IE8. The splitbar is working fine here. It seems they fixed that bug too. Let's hope it'll be in the regular IE8 too.
*** Bug 11556 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
for the record i understand and don't any longer care that SC didn't and won't resize panels and so on in IE7 and lower. but IE8 supports open web standards, and yet my exp as of now, is that SC does not yet work reliably with it, even after IE8's gone final. my bug, which imo is not a dupe since its strictly about IE8, is about getting SC to work with IE8 starting now and going forward. i do not expect that if it is resolved, it will fix anything for IE7 and lower. this bug, which is about IE7 as per its title, probably should be closed as "WONTFIX" imo. IE8 is a totally different animal from IE7 and lower, due to its embrace of open web standards, thus a different bug was called for.
i think its prepostureous to say that an IE8 bug which can be fixed is a dupe of an IE7 bug which its already been determined won't be fixed. they are totally different browsers, one supports open standards, and one doesn't. IE8 has the potential, right now, in its final form, to work with SC just like all the other browsers. IE7 doesn't. all i want is IE8 to work w/SC as other browsers do, and there's no reason i can see why it shouldn't. SC 7.3.3 24731 in fact, DOES allow resizing of the center bar/panels, but a newer nightly doesn't, WHY??? whats different??? why can't we have it work now as it so recently did?
Ok, ok... let's give MrSinatra some peace ;-). This won't be fixed for IE7. Let's take another look at fixing it in all shiny new IE8 (bug 11556)
thank you. (that was only like pulling teeth)
ridiculously, you still can't do this in ie8 OR ie9! what excuse is there to not have this working in ie9??? (a major, if not the number 1, used SBS browser)
