Description Mike Walsh 2009-03-30 12:57:50 UTC
i posted on this in the beta forum:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61611

essentially 7.3.3 24731 DID allow me to resize the center bar, but 25650 is NOT allowing me to do it.

i would really like to identify the culprit and have the ability back.

thx.

QA confirmed, IE8 no longer will allow resize of Home / now playing web parts.

FireFox / Chrome / Opera / Safari do

Since there's now a planned 7.3.3 release, bugs which won't make the cut-off are being moved to the next target out. If you feel that this bug needs to be addressed more (or less) urgently than the 7.4 release, please cc chris@slimdevices.com and leave a comment in the bug to that effect so we can review it.

Thanks.

IMHO this has never reliably worked in any IE. I would be very surprised if it did with the revision you mention. Please add additional information to bug 7959. Thanks.

ok, i'm getting irritated now.

first of all, are you questioning the truthfulness of what i am reporting? you know you do that a lot, at least with me, and NOT ONCE have you been right. why don't you TEST IT instead of doubting thomasing me? i even went so far as to give you an EXACT version to try, and you still scoff.

ver 24731 DOES WORK to resize with IE8. do you want a screenshot??? what does it take to get some action here?

and this isn't a duplicate of that other bug, this is STRICTLY about IE8.

i do not care about other versions of IE, only IE8 which DOES support web standards. i was patiently waiting for IE8 for exactly this reason b4 pushing the issue, based on our previous convos about this.

i don't care about the past, i care about the here and now, and in the here and now, IE8 is final, and SC should work with it as it does other browsers that also support open standards.

Please don't re-open dupes. Feel free to comment on the original bug. Just because it's another browser doesn't mean it's a different bug. IE8 is in compatibility mode with IE7. Thus it behaves the same. With all its bugs etc.

Comment 6 Mike Walsh 2009-03-31 02:33:37 UTC
so take SC out of compatibility mode... why does SC need to be in compatibility mode for IE8?

and this isn't a dupe, and i'll tell you why...

b/c when you fix THIS ISSUE for IE8, this bug will be resolved.

meanwhile

its also clear that IE7 and below will not work now, or later, to resize.

therefore two different outcomes for two different bugs/browsers. one should be fixed, one won't be.
Comment 7 Michael Herger 2009-03-31 02:52:27 UTC
Mike's got a point. Let's try to fix this for IE8 and forget about IE7. But don't expect this in 7.3.3. There's bigger fish to fry.
Comment 8 Mike Walsh 2009-07-01 00:49:52 UTC
7.3.3 is now out. is there a specific reason why this can't go into 7.3.4?

it seems to me you simply need to remove your "compatibility code" as its unnecessary, since IE8 uses web standards.

as i pointed out, the beta ver 24731 DID work, so why is this a problem? it feels like IE users, who are the vast majority, aren't cared about and are being punished or goaded for using IE instead of someting else. your code, in so far as i can tell, only serves to make the IE8 exp less enjoyable, for reasons i can't fathom.

can u * please * target this to a release, and not the purgatory of "Future?"

Mike - I tested this again. Disabled compatibility mode (simple enough if you want to give it a try: just remove the "X-UA-Compatible" line from index.html) and played with it in IE8. It still doesn't work. Plus this caused other/new issues.

It's not as simple as you might think: we're using a JS library (ExtJS.com) which needs to be updated to fully support IE8. They are close to releasing version 3.0. But such a library change isn't anything we'll do lightly, or in a x.y.z release. This is not about punishing anyone, but about resource allocation. We have more important things to implement and fix than this.
Comment 10 Mike Walsh 2009-07-01 21:37:51 UTC
ok, i take what you are saying at face value, and thats fine... EXCEPT for this one thing:

lets accept what you are saying as the truth. please then explain why the beta 7.3.3 version 24731 does indeed work with IE8 reliably with np? i still have the install file and will make it available to you if you want to see for yourself.

also, while i understand you don't think this bug is important, i truly fail to see how some of the other bugs resolved in 7.3.3 and 7.3.4 are more important or more impactful to users than this one. surely there are a lot more IE8 users out there then users affected by some of the very esoteric bugs that were fixed/addressed.

i just find this situation highly illogical, to steal a line from Mr.Spock, but i do appreciate the response.

so now that 3.0.3 is available:

http://www.extjs.com/products/extjs/download.php

any idea when you plan to switch to it?

besides resizing, i have a hunch it will fix a seaparte (IE8?) issue where after clicking on eg. "Albums" from the Home SBS page, the browser just seems to sit idly for a good ten seconds, THEN processes the request.
Comment 12 Mike Walsh 2011-03-20 04:45:58 UTC
does this work in ie9?
Comment 13 Mike Walsh 2011-04-28 10:31:07 UTC
th answer is NO this doesn't work in ie9.

this is insane. why shouldn't this work in ie9?
Comment 14 Mike Walsh 2014-06-04 23:30:42 UTC
can this bug now be closed? did I see that resizing now works in IE9 and above if using LMS 7.9?
Comment 15 Michael Herger 2014-06-05 08:45:56 UTC
Thanks for the heads up - yes, that's "fixed" in that newer version of IE do work again in 7.9.
