Bugzilla – Bug 7725
No audio in SoftSqueeze when trying to play Music Services (Pandora, Slacker) UNLESS you press PAUSE, then PLAY after audio is 100% buffered
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:23:04 UTC
This issue is 100% reproducable on any of my SoftSqueeze 3.6 clients connected to my SqueezeCenter 7.0.1 when trying to listen to music services (Pandora & Slacker) provided by SqueezeNetwork. This is tested on a completely clean installation with all the installation default settings. SqueezeCenter detects LAME.EXE. NO changes are made to any settings. I am using latest stable build: Lame version: 3.97 Symptom: No audio in SoftSqueeze 3.6 when trying to play Music Services (Pandora, Slacker) UNLESS you press PAUSE, then PLAY, after audio is 100% buffered Steps to reproduce: 1) Add Pandora and Slacker menu items to Softsqueeze player menu via SqueezeCenter settings page. 2) Join Pandora paid yearly subscription and add a couple of Pandora stations. Subscribe to Slacker. 3) Add Pandora and Slacker registered accounts to SqueezeNetwork 4) Navigate to a specific Pandora or Slacker radio station via Softsqueeze 3.6. 5) Push play 6) Player will connect to radio station and buffering will reach 100% complete 7) Player should play audio at this point, but does not. But, if you press "Pause" once, then press "Play" immediately after, you will hear audio from the station. I just press the hotkey "C" twice... then audio will start. All other functions of SoftSqueeze/SqueezeCenter work correctly (you dont have to press pause/play to force it to playback)... Such as: 1) Playback of all audio media file types from local music folders (including mp3, wma, flac, etc) work correctly. 2) Playback of Internet radio stations that are NOT accessed from SqueezeNetwork, work correctly (ie Staff Picks). 3) External audio plugins such as Sirius Radio plugin work correctly. ** Supplemental notes ** 1) If I try softsqueeze via SSH (softsqueeze using existing SSH tunnel and port forwarding via Putty). The Sirius Radio plugin behaves the same way as the Music services provided by SqueezeNetwork. 2) I have reason to believe that this bug was introduced in SqueezeCenter 7.0. I never had to press pause/play for the Sirius Radio plugin... even with SSH in Slimserver 6.x.x. But I didnt have Pandora or Slacker at the time.
please don't preset targets
Im not sure I understand. Please elaborate. Are you telling me not to add Pandora/Slacker sub-menu items to the root menu of my Softsqueeze Player and access them directly? (In reply to comment #1) > please don't preset targets >
Oops.. nevermind... I realized its target milestone. Sorry! (In reply to comment #1) > please don't preset targets >
*** Bug 8138 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
I apologize for the duplicate bug #8138 submitted by Anoop. I presumed I didn't file this bug report correctly since it was my first bug report with Bugzilla and didnt see any progress on this issue for quite some time. I had called Logitech 2nd tier support to file the bug correctly in hopes the problem would be looked at more seriously if it was filed officially by 2nd tier support. I am requesting to please change the target milestone to version 7.1. Setting a target milestone of version 7.2 doesnt make any sense since 7.2 will be distributed with SqueezePlay software client (hence, no need for Softsqueeze or its respective bugfixes). Also, another significant justification for bumping up the target to version 7.1 is there is currently no reliable working software client solution to test with SC 7.xx Internet music services. Even a quick and dirty 15 minute "band-aid" fix would greatly be appreciated. I even attempted to contact Richard Titmuss via email in hopes that he could make a quick code fix in softsqueeze.jar; and, just make that file downloadable as a temporary solution. Thanks in advance for your consideration and understanding the priority and impact of this issue.
Hi, I noticed the milestone got changed to future from 7.2. Does this mean you guys are working on it right now? Any chance of seeing a fix in one of the next few daily builds?
re-targeting for 7.3 as SqueezePlay will be replacing softsqueeze in that release.
QA to re-verify with SP
Can't reproduce this. I can't play Pandora or Rhapsody via SoftSqueeze, but Slacker works for me, without the pause thing. Although, I'm using SoftSqueeze 3.7. Michael, do you still see this?
I switched to a new ISP, and new Internet router (not sure if it matters that now I have uPNP, my old router didnt support uPNP). But now, with 3.7, Pandora, Slacker, etc works much better. There's still something weird, once in a while I have to press play more than once to get it started. Sometimes, I lose audio completely no matter how many times I press play, and have to restart the SC app. It works mostly though. I'm hoping that the SqueezePlay app when released will not have such a clunky feel to it.
(In reply to comment #10) > I'm hoping that the SqueezePlay app when released will not have such a clunky > feel to it. http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/latest/7.3/ Try it out and see. Thanks for getting back so fast. I'm going to close this bug for now as it doesn't seem to be an issue any longer.
Yeah no problem. It's time to let go anyway.. and move forward with the next generation Squeezeplay.
