Description Blackketter Dean 2008-01-30 14:04:45 UTC
In the case of a fully discharged
battery, the controller should at least power up long enough to put a
screen on the display saying "Battery Level Critically Low" or something
similar, and display an icon that indicates we're charging?

Caleb suggested that we add an image that gets thrown up on the screen by the kernel, but for now it would be sufficient to have the jive browser come up, display its low power screen and then turn off again.

The question is if there is enough power left in the battery to allow the user to do this a couple of times before being so discharged that it won't come up at all.

According to ross, upon restarting after shutting down at low battery, the user only sees the warning screen about half the time. I think that we should try to make it so that they can see it at least once.

Ross said he'll verify that.

Ross: Can you still verify that the low battery icon does or does not display after restarting after a low battery shutdown?

Just verified, saw the low battery icon after restarting. Restarted twice more and now I do not see it, just backlit keys and a blank screen.

Fixed in r1759.

I have added some code to the kernel that will display a battery (instead of the logitech logo) and power off after approx 5 seconds. This is currently set to the 20% level (see bug 5374) as the load on the battery is less than in normal operation where the power off happens at 10%.

Ross can you please verify the level is correct. After the existing flat battery warning is given the system should power down. Then you should not be able to boot jive, even if you leave it for a little while between attempts. Can you test on multiple units a few times. If you can boot them please record the battery voltage so I can adjust the code.

Sure thing Richard just a little clarification. I am to verify that after r1759 Jive should shutdown at 20% (3.61v)? Also to verify that once this message is received, Jive will either display this message again or not boot at all (no backlit keys), correct?

Marking as fixed. Ross to verify.

This looks great. At 3.55v Jive backlit keys light up and an image of an empty battery with ! appears briefly, then it shuts down. I've turned 25 times since first seeing the low battery indication, each time it has shown me the image as it should. After this testing I'm reading 3.51v.

Yeah, I saw this at home over the weekend. Works great.
