Bugzilla – Bug 5374
Suspend Jive when the battery is low
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:16:09 UTC
Also needs to power off when the power is low.

Maybe provide a 10-60 second countdown, with a message warning the unit is about to power down due to low battery. Currently it just abruptly powers off with no warning.

Screens added in r856. Does not actually power off yet.
Fixed in 859, Jive now turns off with a low battery. This needs testing with a bench supply to make sure it works ok. Can qa please discuss with Caleb. This is how it's meant to work: Cpcty| Voltage| A/D Reading ------------------------------ ------- 100% | > 4.0V | > 899 90% | 3.94V | 885 80% | 3.89 | 875 75% | 3.85 | 866 70% | 3.805 | 855 60% | 3.749 | 843 50% | 3.71 | 834 40% | 3.68 | 826 30% | 3.66 | 823 25% | 3.65 | 820 20% | 3.61 | 812 10% | 3.588 | 807 0% | 3.52 | 790 4 bars > 875 (80%-100%) 3 bars < 875 (75%-80%) 2 bars < 855 (50%-75%) 1 bar < 834 (25%-50%) RED 0 bars < 820 (10%-25%) SHUTDOWN < 807 (10%) to preserve the battery life span, we definitely don't ever want to draw the battery below 10%. The ADC readings may need recalibrating with the P10 boards. Assigning to Chris as I remember him volunteering to check this once.
We'll punt to 7.0 assuming that the user will upgrade immediately.
Chris: can you check this new behavior? Or are you set up to do this, Ross?
I've been testing 5 P10 Jives for 3 days charging them and reading voltage with Chris' multimeter as the charge drains, and keeping an eye on the bars on screen. I have yet to notice any discrepancy from Richards comment #7. Each voltage read is accurately within the ranges it should be, according to its present status on screen (bars 1,2,3,4 etc). Also, anytime any of these Jives reaches 3.588V they are shutting down as they should.
My last comment should have said when voltage dips to 3.588 Jives are *suspending* as they should not shutting down. Also each Jive was tested with v6 fw. Let me know if more/different testing needs to be performed.
Following Ross's testing I think this is completed. I had left the bug open to remind myself that we need to wake up and shutdown when in suspend mode. I'll make a note of that in bug 6580.
This bug has recently been fixed in the latest release of SqueezeCenter 7.0.1 Please try that version, if you still see the error, then reopen this bug. To download this version, please navigate to: http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.html
