Bugzilla – Bug 6548
Selecting A Genre > Various Artists destabilises computer
Last modified: 2011-04-08 00:52:11 UTC
If I select Home > A Genre > Various Artists from the web gui with Libary Statistics enabled the query takes almost a minute to complete and meanwhile my computer is unsuable, with the sql processes taking 100% processor resources. If I turn off Library Statistics I do not experience the problem. The problem does not appear if I use the same query via the Remote. Here are my library and computer specs: Total: Albums: 1600 Total Ambient Genre albums: 192 Total Various Artists Ambient Genre albums: 27 All flac. SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0 - 15727 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252 1.5ghz P4. 1gb RAM. XPPro I have compilation tag =1 set for all of them and an albumartist specified for many of them. Apart form that my set up is standrad an no esoteric tags are used.. and genrerally one album has only one genre or albumartist tag. There are two related forum threads: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=41746 http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=128457 There is an existing bug that may be related... in any case it would be nice if it was cleared up at the same time.... https://bugs-archive.lyrion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6424 I've attached a log file generated with database.sql to Debug.

Please try again with _all_ 3rd party plugins disabled. Where do you see that delay in that log? At which point did you open the page?

Hi Michael. To answer your question. The log should have started directly with the query in question as I'd stopped the SlimCentre service whilst the web gui was at Home > Genres > Ambient. As soon as I'd started the service I clicked on Various Artists. When the page eventually rendered I opened and saved the log file. The next log file I've uploaded is called AnotherVariousArtistsSQLDebug_NoPlugins.log. I started the SlimServer service whilst the web gui was at Home > Genres and then navigated to Home > Genres > Ambient > Various Artists in the hope that this makes the sql log clearer for you. The web gui again froze for about a minute, the sql process pegging my processor at 100% and rendering my PC almost entirely unusable. You might also want to note just how slow it was to navigate between the three menu pages. I am not conversant with sql or reading this type of log file so am not able to help you interpet it I'm afraid. I think that in the original thread Mr Harris may have alluded to the fact that the log file was not what was required but that a "Slow"(?) output record from the sql serv was what was required (or possibly not).
Is the count you're seeing with stats enabled telling you that everything is displayed? Or at least like in bug 6424 that all VA tracks are displayed, though they should be filtered by genre?
When I click on Genres > Ambient > Various Artists only the albums I have tagged as Ambient and containing various artists are displayed/returned... thi whether i have Library Statistics enabled or not. I hope this answers your question.
Andy is looking at related issues in another branch.
Simon - I'm still not able to reproduce your issue. But I've just checked in change 18484 which fixes some other VA related issues where it was possible to have all albums displayed instead of only the albums of a given genre. Could you please verify whether you still see this issue in 7.0.1? Thanks!
Sorry, I missed this, but just for posterity the issue seems to be fixed in (the just released) 7.0.1.
this is just a shot in the dark, but by any chance do any of your files have " Various Artists " as the string for album artist in the id3 tag? (or band field if TPE2 is treated as album artist)
