Bugzilla – Bug 6541
(HTTP) proxy per player setting
Last modified: 2009-09-23 13:34:26 UTC
As i access my music library from different locations having different networks each with specific requirements (e.g. proxies) it would be much easier with player specific proxy settings. scenario (proxy=HTTP Proxy): - SqueezeCenter, no direct connection to the internet, proxy required - 1st client, same network as SqueezeCenter, no direct connection to the internet, proxy required - 2nd client, same location but WLAN connected, direct connection to the internet, no proxy available - 3rd client, other location, connection to SqueezeCenter using a VPN, direct connection to the internet, no proxy available - 4th client, other location, connection to SqueezeCenter using a VPN, (other) proxy required. Playing locally stored music works just fine, but internet based sources (radio streams, etc.) suffer from the fact, that the proxy setting (Settings->Advanced->Network) is propagated to all connected clients. I'd like to see an option for (un)setting a proxy for each player. Setting the "MP3 Streaming Method" does not really help in all situations... thanks!
as with bug 6537, this should be something for post-7.0
Agreed, we'll look at this post-7.0
May I suggest revisiting that item? I'd expect that if I set a player to direct streaming that it does not go through the proxy server of the SqueezeCenter. Yet it does. My problem is that the SqueezeCenter is located in another country behind a VPN Tunnel. Sending all the audio data through this tunnel is okay for local music played from the SqueezeCenter but a real nuisance for Internet radio stations as they are reachable throught the local high bandwidth internet link of the local Squeezebox.
