Description Dan Evans 2007-12-28 14:06:02 UTC
On the Jive screen can we display "factory reset" when we perform either a power-on reset (hold down add) or a menu reset from settings > adv > factory reset.

I understand this a a bootloader function and at that stage we cannot display text, but there must be some way to pass a message via the bootloader to the OS that a factory reset was just performed and display the message.

The key lights flash, but this may not be enough feedback for the user.

assigning to Dan-- do you still see this as an issue that needs fixing?
Comment 3 Dan Evans 2008-06-06 09:34:25 UTC
I would say yes, we need this. Given the frequency we're needing to do factory resets on the Controller. Reducing customer confusion with this process would be a boon.

On a related note, I'd say we should also have text display when we perform a firmware reversion (holding down VOL UP during boot up.) which is another procedure we find necessary with customers.

I can open a separate bug on that if you like.

Richard, I'm punting this over your way. If you feel I'm the one to fix this, can you give me some direction on what code I need to look at?

Localization seems to me a big issue here, since Jive isn't loaded how do you display a localized text message?

What if:

1. a file is stored on flash that the bootloader can use to identify what LANG has been selected

2. one image per LANG is made available, and the correct image is displayed on screen when a factory reset is performed.

3. same thing for firmware reversion

this seems like a load of work for this, but I haven't brainstormed anything better yet...

This should use an icon during boot, so localization is not required.

I am not sure it will be possible to display a message when running alternate firmware, why do you need to do this with customers? I really want to resolve the root cause of this problem. The alternate firmware image should really only be used during development.
Comment 6 Richard Titmuss 2008-06-26 00:31:57 UTC
I don't have time to complete this for 7.1.
Comment 7 Ben Klaas 2008-07-25 06:56:48 UTC
punting to 7.3
Comment 8 Richard Titmuss 2008-10-30 04:39:01 UTC
This won't make 7.3.
Comment 9 Richard Titmuss 2009-06-09 11:57:09 UTC
This is implemented, but I need artwork from Noah.
