Bugzilla – Bug 6297
Weird character displayed in SC and SB3
Last modified: 2008-12-18 11:12:53 UTC
I have no problem to rename favorite radio stations with special character, i.e. chinese in SN and display correctly in both SN and SB3. However, it was not the case in SC, wierd characters being shown. Is it a bug? Auronthas
Can you post a screenshot?

Michael, Please do inform when the bug in 5173 is fixed for SC v.7.0a1. TIA auronthas
re-opening as bug 5173 is for SS6's prefs favorites. In SC7 favorites aren't stored in the preference file any more, so this is a different issue.
auronthas - could you please provide us with some more information: - what operating system is SC7 running on? - what browser are you using to edit the favorites? - please upload your favorites.opml file (you'll find it in the playlist folder) - what are your language settings
Created attachment 2522 [details] Infobrowser.opml in SC 7.0a1 OS - Window Vista Browser - IE 7.0 There is no favorites.opml in playlist, but i can find only infobrowser.opml as attached. My language setting is English(Malaysia)
If you don't have a favorites.opml, then there's something wrong anyway. That's where the favorites are stored. Please verify the playlists setting and search your disk for the favorites.opml. You're browsing from the same machine as you're running SC on? And you're running the latest nightly build?

My SC (nightly build 13 Nov) is installed at Slimserver rather than Squeezecenter, I have searched the entire Slimserver directory, couldn't find favorites.opml. There is only default.opml and infobrowser.opml. Yes, same machine for browsing and running SC. Everything seems to work stable in SC except the favorite editing in chinese character. I may try to download latest SC this weekend, I would check if there is favorites.opml.
Or do i need to use 'debug' on under advanced settings to able to display favorites.opml?
Is your playlist folder pointing to the same folder as the music folder? Please turn on favorites logging (Settings->Advanced->Logging) and edit the favorites list. You should then see if there's a problem writing out that file.
Created attachment 2531 [details] Favorites opml for verifying on weird character display in SC Michael, you are absolutely right, found the favorite.opml file in my music folder. Attached please find the file for your verifying.
Could you please update to the very latest SC build and try again. Yours is more than a month old.
(In reply to comment #16) > Could you please update to the very latest SC build and try again. Yours is > more than a month old. I just updated my latest SC build (20 Dec). The problem still persist.
change 15871 - could you please give it another try (01-05 nightly), thanks
I installed nightly build 6 Jan yesterday. When i click on the edit icon at favorite, it leads me to a blank page on the left pane. When I hit refresh, it is back to Home. I have tried few times, even shutdown and restart, same result.
Can you open http://yourserver:9000/home.html and navigate from there? This will allow to reload that specific page. MSIE often doesn't refresh the frames, but only the main document. And do you see some error message in server.log?
change 16051 moved the fix to the global http handler
installed 9 Jan (16051) just now, i still facing a blank page on left pane after clicking the edit icon at favorite.
Please clear your browser's cache and see message #20...
Created attachment 2638 [details] unable to load favorite edit page I did clear browser cache before i installed 9 Jan nightly. I did another round of clearing browser cache and type in http://127.0.0.1:9000/home.html, still after clicking on the edit icon at favorite leads me to unloaded page at (http://127.0.0.1:9000/plugins/Favorites/index.html?fav)as per above screenshot shown.
What about the server.log file?
Created attachment 2640 [details] server.log after clicking on edit at favorite Server.log shown the following:- [08-01-10 15:54:57.3431] Slim::Plugin::Favorites::Plugin::indexHandler (286) new favorites editing session [08-01-10 15:55:21.9463] Slim::Networking::Async::HTTP::_http_read (279) Error reading headers: Server closed connection without sending any data back at /<C:\PROGRA~1\SLIMSE~1\server\SQUEEZ~1.EXE>Net/HTTP/Methods.pm line 306. ...propagated at /<C:\PROGRA~1\SLIMSE~1\server\SQUEEZ~1.EXE>Net/HTTP/NB.pm line 32. My SC is running steadily. TIA
All I see in this log is a whole bunch of problems with the scrobbler plugin. Please remove any third party plugin and try again.
One more thing: after you've removed the plugins, set logging for network.http=debug, try to load the favorites page, shut down SC and upload the log. Make sure you turn off logging after this test as it otherwise will fill your disk :)

This very likely is no bug, but some oddity on your system. Please contact support or start a thread in the forums. Here's what I've found in your log file: [08-01-10 16:36:12.4193] Slim::Web::HTTP::_generateContentFromFile (2257) generating from plugins/Favorites/html/favorites.js with type: get [08-01-10 16:36:12.4271] Slim::Web::HTTP::fixHttpPath (2392) Couldn't find path: plugins/Favorites/html/favorites.js ...which means it was able to load the favorites page, but didn't find the javascript file. Don't you see the page on the screen? One reason for this might be the following entry: Found path C:\PROGRA~1\SLIMSE~1\server\Slim\Plugin\Favorites(19)\HTML\EN\plugins\Favorites\index.html What's that "(19)" behind the Favorites foldername? Is it really there? Can you browse that folder in Windows Explorer? Do you find that index.html file, but not the .js?
Thanks Michael for highlighting the problem. I do find favorite.js under C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Slim\Plugin\Favorites\HTML\EN\plugins\favorites\html. But i don't know how does the existence of folder Favorite(19) (i.e. C:\Program Files\SlimServer\server\Slim\Plugin\Favorites(19)). There is no .js in this directory and subdirectory. Should i delete this folder -> Favorites(19) using Window Explorer? Thanks again.
If you're sure you got all the files which are in the ...(19) folder in the Favorites folder, too, then yes, remove it. otherwise copy the missing items to the correct folder and try again.
Thanks, Michael. I have started a new thread 'Weird favorite folder' under Development\Beta.
I can see chinese text after edit and save favorite. Case closed.
