Description Ted Brady 2007-11-09 22:32:21 UTC
I use %FILE to find album art jpegs, since I use cue sheets and either FLAC or WAV whole album files. In V7.0a (nightly Nov 9) the gallery of albums does not show album art (just a gray picture of a musical note) until each album is picked for playing. The album art shows in Now Showing. Then returning to the gallery will it load up and then display. I have 650 albums. Do I have to first pick each one???

That other bug report was about having no area to specify "album thumbnails". I was then told that thumbnails and artwork are taken care of in the same parameter. I'll close that bug.

THIS bug report is about behavior....the artwork display (gallery of album art) doesn't show a specific album's artwork initially until that actual album is chosen to play, then when you return to the gallery it loads and shows from then on. I tested it today by starting Squeezecenter again and voila the first five albums on the list (out of 645) show up fine. The remainder have not yet been played (V7.0a Nov 9 was just installed last night, of course) so they don't show. This incredibly frustrating dependency was not an issue in 6.5.2, etc.

This seems more like a problem with the scanner. What you are seeing is actually an improvement over 6.5.x. Normally thumbnails are filled in a late phase of a full rescan (wipe and rescan). When this fails, you end up with blank thumbnails. however, 70 will fill in those thumbnails on the fly when it get track artwork, such as when playing or browsing. Run a full wipe and rescan with the latest nightly of 7.0, set logging scan.import and scan.scanner to DEBUG before you do. After the scan, you can check the scanner.log for details. I expect you'll see that it ends prematurely and we can proceed from there.

Do I need to do a complete uninstall of the Nov 9 nightly, reboot and reinstall of last night's nightly? Should I delete the main folder? Thanks

Nov 9 nightly is probably recent enough to test this with. Most cases, you can just install over top of previous nightlies, so the choice is yours. check the top of the logging settings page for the paths to the log files. they've been recently relocated in Windows so I can't recall what they are.

Attached scanner log. Don't know what I'm looking at. This scan did the trick, though. All album art now shows in browse gallery. Go figure. Thanks
