Bugzilla – Bug 5557
Should we remove UPnP
Last modified: 2009-09-08 09:24:00 UTC
Should we remove UPnP support since we are not using it for Rhapsody anymore. This is misleading to customers if they see a UPnP device in SlimServer.
What do you think, Andy? Is there a reason to leave it in there?
No we should not remove it, it is useful for other UPnP servers. The question to ask is should we remove Rhapsody UPnP support, and I would be inclined to say yes but I'm not sure everyone would agree.
If we don't want to leave in Rhapsody uPnP support, what other purpose is there to leave it in? At the moment, customers who have some unrelated UPnP media server running see it appearing in SlimServer. This is very misleading and they end up thinking we support UPnP servers, etc. Can we remove the function that causes UPnP servers to appear in SlimServer?
But that's the whole point, so you can access your media files on a UPnP server. We *do* support UPnP servers.

Dean - do we remove it?

Can we leave it in but disable the plugin by default?
Done, change 16020.
