even now playing? how still should you have to hold it then to see any screensaver that was something you wanted to see?

Heh, this is a return to the "jump back on wake" discussion. You have a point. The Now Playing screensaver should probably jump to the "soon-to-be-updated" now playing screen, so when you pick it up, it's already there.
Comment 3 Richard Titmuss 2007-09-17 05:42:15 UTC
Fixed between r478-r480.

You may need to do a factory reset, or reselect your screensaver for the fix to work correctly.

As it is now, the Now Playing screensaver will quit when the Jive is picked up. I am not a fan of that feature. My preference is that the motion sensor should undim the screen, but that a button/scrollwhell event should be required for the screensaver to quit.

I agree, partially. The Now Playing screensaver should not exit when you pick it up, rather it should leave you on the now playing screen, which you can then navigate home from. This should be like the Now Playing screensaver on Squeezebox.

The clocks _should_ go away when you pick up the device.
Comment 6 KDF 2007-09-19 23:39:45 UTC
I'd agree with that, assuming that the hysteresis also comes into effect. Tonight, jive was beeping and jumping out of clock every time someone got up. Vibrations through the floor and table were enough. THAT's one sensitive accelerometer :)

Dean, I disagree on this one. One important difference between a Squeezebox and a Jive, is that Jive dims the screen after some time to save battery. I would agree with you for a Squeezebox with a motion sensor in the conventional IR remote. For Jive, what's really the point with a clock screensaver if the behavior is as it is now? The clock disappears because of dimmed screen when Jive rests on the table, and the hidden clock then immediately disappears when the Jive is picked up.

The screensavers really are only useful when the thing is in its charging cradle. In that case if there's a screensaver set, the key lights dim, but the screen should not.
Comment 9 KDF 2007-09-23 01:11:45 UTC
Maybe this depends on the screensaver. Maybe it makes sense to have the screensavers have options for exit. clocks exit on pickup, flicker exits on GO or BACK, while Now Paying might only exit on HOME.

it's clearly a contentious issue, and it should be a targetted discussion to solve it once and for all, so that we avoid having to flip flop forever more.

There could be a wake up setting that has three options:

Wake Up

Motion
Keys
Wheel

With three checkboxes.

ok, so i've been thinking about this and i think the best approach would be:
- if jive is in power save mode, so lcd screen is off, then the screensaver should have exited when you pick it up
- if you can see the screensaver then it should not exit when you pick it up

i really do think that you may be picking up jive to look at what's on the screensaver (even the clock), so it it's visible the action of picking jive up should not make it disappear. however if the screen is blank then your picking it to use it, so having the screensaver exit is the correct action.

Sounds reasonable, with the one caveat that if you are using the Now Playing screensaver, then the full screen version does go away and you are left at the navigable one which is under Now Playing.

The more I've been using it, the more strongly I feel that the clock screensavers should exit when you pick up.

There's a nice clock in the bar at the bottom, so it's not a matter of knowing what time it is.

So, how about we make this per-screensaver decision (with no user setting) for now.

Flickr can require a button press, but clocks should not.

Now Playing is already a navigable screen so it should wake on pickup as listed in the comment above.

Is there some reason why this is too hard for 7.0.1?

Reset priority

Fixed clock screen savers in r2101, they now exit on motion. Now playing is more complex, and probably best covered as part of bug 6804.

SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0.1 - 19422
Controller r2409

Verified both screen dim and sleep stats now recover to previous menu item when clock is set as screen saver.

Flicker requires a button press as per discussion

This bug has recently been fixed in the latest release of SqueezeCenter 7.0.1

Please try that version, if you still see the error, then reopen this bug.
