Description Blackketter Dean 2007-08-27 21:56:45 UTC
When you switch players now, immediately after the player is chosen a blank menu is shown and after a few seconds is filled in. It would be better to spin the arrow on the right side until the subsequent menu can be drawn, avoiding a blank screen.

When connecting to a player we really need a full screen popup, but still allow left to go back. This would be used after setup, on boot and from the choose player menu. Adding this would fix a number of small problems, including sometimes getting a blank menu if the network connection is lost.

Why not just a spinning cursor when switching players and when finishing setup?

At boot time, we could stay on the splash screen...

Now that we have the new menu, it doesn't come up blank, but it may take 3-4 seconds until populated. Ben is looking at this.

There are many things about this behavior I don't like. I'm prioritizing a fix for this.
Comment 8 Ben Klaas 2007-12-26 07:47:51 UTC
Responsiveness should be greatly improved since player-specific menustatus subscription changes from last week.

Behavior now is that the non-SC portion of the main menu appears (and is usable) immediately, then the SC-portion appears...well, whenever it appears. This is the biggest problem with the behavior now...sometimes the SC menus take as much as 10-15 seconds to show up, and almost always take 2-5 seconds. That's unacceptable and needs fixing by 7.0

Changing bug summary to better reflect behavior with new menu code.

So, for a proper fix:
find way to get that SC menu loaded quicker
use spinning arrow until menu can be drawn (not sure if this will matter now though since the non-SC menu comes immediately onStage)

A related problem is Now Playing appears before the menu, that just seems a bit messy. If a spinny were used then that problem (the now playing) does not need fixing, otherwise we need to sync the time the menu updates.

This seems to be working on, but it has a problem when show briefly appears. I have a fix for this, but not sure it is the correct approach. I'll sleep on it.

Last comment is in the wrong bug.

fixed in r1435

Use full-screen popup "Connecting to %s" until the first menustatus update comes through
Install window listener to popup to allow using back key to exit popup. This action will disconnect from the current player as well.
