Description Dan Evans 2007-01-04 12:21:56 UTC
If you scan in an album containing songs from a variety of years, Slimserver lists all those years in "Browse Years" but does not list the songs in the appropriate year -- it clumps them all into one year as an album.

For example: if I take 2 songs, one is tagged with the year 1962 and the second is 1969 ... Slimserver displays both 1962 and 1969 when you browse Years, but both songs are listed under 1969. 1962 is empty. Both songs have the same album and artist tags.

This is with SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 11024 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252

I can attach files if requested.

Dan, is this one you reproduced yourself or is this something a customer reported?

I reproduced this myself.

This will not be fixed. The browse years is done by the album year, and I have no intention of changing it.
Comment 4 Jim McAtee 2007-01-05 10:44:26 UTC
The how does the browsing Years end up with empty years? That's still a bug. My guess is that the years table is populated during the scan of tracks from the dates stamped on the tracks, and then that table is then used when browsing by years. But the years table is redundant and can be eliminated. If you're going to use the year of the album then you should use "SELECT DISTINCT(year) FROM albums" for creating the list of years to browse.

This feature does make sense, would it be difficult to do this? Is this an enhancement request?

I had another customer contact support about this issue. He has allot of older music that he would like to sort by year.
Comment 7 Ross Levine 2007-09-07 15:40:22 UTC
Re-opening this bug, Anoop would you attach a file from this customer please?

resetting for review.
Comment 10 KDF 2007-12-05 16:07:37 UTC
skip the review, lets merge this with bug 5211 as it is already targetted for 7.0 and would cover the same scope in regard to handling albums with tracks of multiple years.

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 5211 ***
