Description Philip Meyer 2006-08-04 13:57:27 UTC
If I use Browse Music folder to navigate to music that I know I have updated
(eg. change of VA album name), I end up with duplicate albums.

ie. the old album name remains, and I get the same tracks in the new album name.

This is one example where Browse Music Folder causes inconsistencies in the music library.

I thought that Browse Music Folder would work like a
"look for new and changed music", updating the music library accordingly.

Not seeing this symptom. That is, when I change the track's album name, then browse to it in Browse Music Folder, it does begin showing up under the new album AND disappears from the old album.

Are you browsing using the web gui or player ui? What kind of files are they?

Thanks!

I am seeing a different effect now with SVN 8880.

Now, if I change the ALBUM tag for all tracks in a folder and Browse Music Folder (Web UI),
the new album name is not picked up. ie. if I go down into song info and play song, Slimserver
still displays the old album name.

If I do a scan for new and changed files, the new ALBUM tag is detected correctly.

A follow-up to my previous post...

After the "scan for new and changed music", I can see the new album name in the New Music list.

I changed the album name back to what it was originally.

I drilled down to the song info for one of the tracks, and saw the old album name. I
went back and then revisited song info for the same track again, and saw an almost blank song info screen
(it only said "Title:").

This caused the track to be associated with the new album name.

I then did a "scan for new and changed music" and have two identical album names listed in "New Music".
One holds the tracks that I previously browsed the song info for, the other holds all the other tracks.

Phil, I believe this should be fixed now.

Can you test?

Thanks

If I change the name of a VA album and use BMF to visit the songs on that album, slimserver
isn't changing the DB entry for that album.

ie. BMF displays the new album name. I click on it and browse each song info. If I then
browse Artists -> Various Artists, I see the old album name. If I click on it, it says
0 songs. The new album name isn't displayed, so there's no way to browse to the album
except using BMF, or fixing the library via "Look for new and changed music".
Comment 7 Dan Sully 2006-09-10 14:55:52 UTC
Phil - that's correct. The VA post-processing is too heavyweight to run after each BMF click/button press.

I'll need to look at this more later.

The rescan is the correct thing to do.

Hopefully in 7.0, the change-notification framework will be in place, so using BMF for updates will be a thing of the past.

"adding" changed music this way does not remove the original track. The workaround is to do a rescan if there are tracks that are incorrect after doing this.

does the new scanner make this bug obsolete?
